I was at the range today with a buddy, and there was a guy there breaking in a brand new dpms rifle, really nice piece, and brought his kid with him, good job, starting them young.

We had been shooting for a little while, and I noticed that he was packing up pretty soon (like 5-10 minutes quick). I asked him if he was done, just making conversation, and he said there was a bit of a problem. His son had put the cleaning rod through without having the full length on it, so it had gotten stuck, and he couldn't get it out with what he had.

I offered the cleaning rod on the mosin, and that did just the trick.

So, my little $130 mosin saved a $900 AR.

    Just wanted to share that.

Also, at the range today, I cut a playing card in half by shooting it on it's edge with my fnp9. I needed to brag about that. Sorry, I'm usually a pretty mediocre shot, and that was amazing.

Nice shooting and well done helping out another shooter.
Give yourself a pat on the back for being a good guy, and for teaching a youngster 2 lessons he will never forget.
    1) It's good to help strangers in need.
    2) Always make sure you have the proper tool for the job.

Well Christ on a crutch son...
I didn't realize you were that close when you shot it...
I take back my kudos on your marksmanship.
Hell even I could split a card that close :D

Oh har har har, you soooo funny.

It was at about 7 yards, so still not that impressive, but still.

Definitley something to be said for having the cleaning rod attached to the rifle. Useful for clearing malfunctions like that. Kind of strange that modern designs have discarded this feature. I suppose the designers are trying for simplicity, minimalism, and saving every gram of weight.

This is why I tie a string to the opposite end of my bore snake; I just know one of these days the sucker is gonna break.

1 1/2 mags, a little over 20 rounds. I'm just happy I got it at all.

Spft. You're supposed to say "It took me three shots, but only because I had to use the first two rounds to shoot the ninjas that were attacking the little old lady and her kitten."

    Some storyteller you are. ;)

    Cool story bro

Kidding. That cleaning rod has helped me out of a few problems myself.

Was I the only one reading the story hoping that you used the kickass mosin bayonet?

Good for you helping out a fellow shooter. I'm sure the kid felt awful shutting down dad's day early so you know he appreciated it. I hope the karma is returned 10 fold. We need more good people like ya.
