I have a six-position carbine buffer tube that I want to remove all but the last 1" of the raised part. I'm thinking of using a saw to cut off sections then using a grinder to smooth it out. I don't have access to a lathe so that's off the table. Is this going to work? Will doing this weaken the tube? I don't care how it looks, just trying to get the extra weight off.
