I received some shells that are .44 cal that were mixed with .223 when tumbled. The .223 fits inside the .40 and leaves a ridged ring 1/2 way down the shell casing. I don't believe that I can use these shells to reload, but has anyone have any opinions about these shells. I routinely toss anything that looks not usuable and am fairly new to reloading. Thanks!

I do mix brass, but you have to choose what you're mixing carefully. I don't have a problem with 6.8 SPC and 10mm, but .223 and 10mm/.40? Not a good idea. If you ran the .223 and 9mm brass, you won't get that problem.

I learned to sort my brass before I tumble, the first time I made the mistake of tumbling .45ACP along with 9mm.:sad20: I could barely get the 9mm OUT of the .45 after tumbling! Before you mix, make sure one won't fit inside the other. I routinely mix 9mm with .38

    Sgt Preston here...

OUCH, I know how you feel...

I separate all my brass when I come home from the range...

When I get about 400 - 500 of each caliber, I tumble them in my Dillon CV-500 using ground corn cob & some liquid car wax (Dillon Rapid Polish 290)...

Even with the preparation, I still sometimes find an occasional intruder in side of a piece of brass now & then...

And they are a PIA to get them apart...so...

I always advise fellow reloaders to you take the time & separate their brass before they tumble...

    Hope this is helpful..!
