AOW it
I don't play the NFA game yet lol
Just think for a $5 tax stamp, you could have a pistol with a foregrip

$5? I'm not sure I follow. I thought AOW is $200 just like any other NFA item? Either way I don't think I have it in me to wait 5-9 months to use a firearm lol.
It's $200 if you do it yourself, but the assault pistol isn't allowed in MD.
You would have to have a SOT make an AOW for you, and the NFA transfer cost is only $5.00.
Yeah, the 6 month wait sucks! I'm picking up an AOW this week, that was submitted back in October, 2011.
Submit it to the board and see it if passes.

How would it get approved for the handgun roster if it's already on the "assault" pistol list? Has a weapon been approved for the roster and then removed from the "Assault pistol" list before?

First of all in this communist land, nothing is approved. It is "not disapproved"

There are far better options if you're looking for a semi auto 9mm pistol. If you're in the market for a relatively inexpensive pistol, semi auto, 9mm, 30'ish round capacity, square, terrible ergonomics, sketchy sights and a craptastic finish. That sounds sounds like you should be looking at a Glock 17 with a few 33 round mags. Haters gonna hate and I'm no Glock fan, but it would fit the bill and be very reliable.
Skip the Cobray semi auto and head to your favorite Glock shop.
