I got an S&K scout mount that replaced my rear sight, and a Leupold 4x pistol scope. This should make it easier to see the full accuracy potential from my RC '41 Obendorf K98. My old eyes just can't see the rear sight clear enough to use the stock military sights. The bore on this baby is immaculate and has crisp lands and deep grooves. I am working up some mild 175gr gas-checked cast bullet loads based on CE Harris's article "Cast bullet loads for Mil-Surplus rifles by C.E. Harris" ,

I had a similar set up to yours, albeit with much cheaper glass. It worked pretty good for me. Eventually I broke down and just got a K98k sniper :)

    BTW, your rifle looks beautiful.

I am in the same boat due to aging eyes. I am currently experimenting with using a low power scope on my AR. The problem is, I shoot in matches and non illuminated cross hairs cover up the six inch bull at 100 yards. Next I am going to try cheaper scope with illuminated cross hairs before jumping into an expensive one.

For your setup, you might want to look around at Cabelas or in their catalog for a cheek rest. They have several that strap on which will give you some cheek or chin weld. Without something on the comb, there is little face support when using a scout scope. Nice looking rifle.

Update: the eye relief for the 4x M8 Leupold pistol scope is slightly too extended to get a decent cheek weld, so I am changing this scope to a Leupold FX-II 2.5x28 scout scope.
Range report and new photo coming...
