On October 15, 2018, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland granted Maryland's Motion to Dismiss in Malpasso v. Pallozzi, our case fighting Maryland's restrictive policies on the issuance of carry permits for handguns. As we anticipated, the District Court was bound under precedent from the Woollard case to find against our filing.
The next step of the case took place on November 13, 2018 when our attorneys filed notice with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit of our intention to appeal this decision. At this point, we are back to a "wait and see" situation. The next steps are the filings of briefs from both sides, along with the potential filings of amicus briefs from other interested parties. There are specific dates for when filings must occur, but there is no corresponding deadline for when the Fourth Circuit must issue a decision/opinion.
We anticipate this will be a long process, so patience is the order of the day. We will provide updates as the situation warrants. Thank you for your time and support with this important court case.
