Some work with a cool rarely uncommon tool called a die filer. Belt grinder makes quick work of the outer diameter, this is great for cleaning up inner diameters. Also waaay more square than hand filing. Milling cutters are round and cut radius-ended slots, so used this to square it up. It’s slow going but faster and more accurate than by hand. Still need to do the other end of the slot. You can see my scribed lines I will slowly sneak up to and fit the sliding t into.
