I'm getting ready for our Bangsteel Long Range Shooting School trip next month. I'm taking my Rem 700 300 Win Mag. Started working on a load last weekend and was not happy with the jump even though I've got a pretty substantial muzzle brake on it. I decided to add some weight since I've got it in a lightweight Magpul Hunter stock. After disassembly of the stock, I located several places where weight could be added. I added about 4 lbs of #9 shot mixed with epoxy to the stock which puts the rifle at about 16lbs total (I'm not planning to carry it in the field). Also, put a divot in the cheekpiece riser so I can take out the bolt without any tools. Unfortunately, the Magpul design doesn't allow a 700 long action bolt to come out readily from the factory with the high riser. I've just replaced the aluminum Talley Scope Rings two-piece integrated 20 MOA rings/base because they either weren't right from the factory or bent from the recoil of the 300wm. They drifted to about 4 MILS right windage which put my scope adjustment just about to the end of the range. I replaced them with a Seekins Precision 20 MOA base and rings and it's back how it should be. I'm using the Athlon Optics Midas-TAC scope which is a pretty good value for a FFP 6-24x50.
