Sole provider for his wife and four children, ages 13 years to 15 months. Damn.

Even if they catch these "youth", the maximum sentence for juveniles in DC is Juvenile Detention until Age 21 unless the cases are transferred to the adult court system.

    Remember this?:

D.C. laws prohibited the 13 year-old from being tried as an adult. However, for the 15 year-old, the D.C. Attorney General’s Office could have petitioned for the case to be transferred to the adult court system, but they didn't. They each got the maximum sentence for Juvenile Detention until Age 21.

I wonder what percentage of Uber/Lyft drivers in the DMV actually carry now.

Probably very few. As I recall Uber and Lyft both had employment provisions against it. Someone who’s done it part time could probably chime in.

Concealed is concealed. Uber/Lyft has no way of knowing if you're carrying. However, if a rider would see it, they could complain, and you could be banned from the app.

Either way, no idea how this went down... but if you're sitting in your car as a driver, waiting to pick up a rider, you're pretty much a sitting duck. If it was 4 youths just looking for a random killing, and snuck up on you, wouldn't matter if you were packing or not.

    Uber's Policy: https://www.uber.com/legal/en/docum...ates&lang=en&name=firearms-prohibition-policy

    Uber Firearms Prohibition Policy

Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a safe and reliable ride. That's why Uber prohibits riders and their guests, as well as driver and delivery partners, from carrying firearms of any kind while using our app*

Anyone who violates this policy may lose access to Uber.

*To the extent permitted by applicable law.

    ^^^^^^ That's worded in a very interesting way.... ^^^^^^

Uber's policy used to be stated differently per this article: https://www.concealedcarry.com/firearms-ownership/what-is-ubers-gun-policy/

Uber prohibits riders and their guests, as well as driver and delivery partners, from carrying firearms of any kind while using the app, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Please note that the only situation where we would allow a firearm while using the app is if you are transporting your firearm in accordance with the Transportation Security Administration rules for transporting firearms and ammunition. That means your firearm must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container in the trunk of the vehicle. All parts, including magazines, clips, ammunition, and bolts and firing pins must also be transported in the trunk of the vehicle.

Failure to comply with this policy may lead to account deactivation.

Uber apparently adopted a no-firearms policy back in June 2015:

Prior to that, it was this:

Your Uber Driver Could Be Packing Heat, and You Wouldn't Know It The company lets drivers carry guns. Lyft doesn't. (April 22, 2015)

Uber is standing by the driver’s right to carry a weapon while working. Uber spokeswoman Jen Mullin told NBC Chicago that she had “had no comment on the driver’s actions other than to say the company requires all its drivers to abide by local, state, and federal laws pertaining to transporting firearms in vehicles.”

    Lyft's Policy: https://help.lyft.com/hc/e/all/articles/115012923127-Safety-policies

This means that even in places where it is legal to carry a weapon, we ask that you do not carry a weapon on any Lyft property.

We approach this from a community perspective. It's hard to know what someone else is or isn't comfortable with. The mere presence of a weapon might make another community member distressed and fear for his or her own personal safety.

Cleveland Lyft driver fired for admitting to firing legally-owned gun during attempted carjacking: https://www.cleveland19.com/2021/01...egally-owned-gun-during-attempted-carjacking/

A passenger would probably get banned from the service for doing the same. (Not that it would matter IMHO)

So how long after Uber and Lyft pull out of DC before the race hustlers start blaming white supremacy for them leaving? (in nanoseconds) Bonus points for coining "transportation desert" as a thing.

His team should come to DC and lay waste to all the sh1tbags. All the teams should be doing this. Let's have a REAL war on crime.

That distressed community member should seek professional counseling.

It's heartbreaking. He helped the U.S. Army Special Forces as an interpreter to try to save his country. He ultimately had to flee Afghanistan and the Taliban as a targeted individual. He made it here and was working his ass off on the American Dream, only to be shot and left to die on the Streets of our Nation's Capital.... about a mile from the Capitol Building itself.

Reward money is out: MPD is offering $25K for information that will lead to arrest or conviction. Someone will talk for that cash.

I certainly hope so. Regardless, even if caught and convicted, the “yutes” will be back on the streets in a few years and his family will still be SOL.

If they're not tried as adults, yup. They'll be back on the street at Age 21 after a few years in Juvenile Detention. It's madness. What a nightmare.

Sad, someone should tell folks …..the road is not paved with gold in Merica.

I’m hoping this man’s family will be ok after their loss.
