We can all sit here and argue why the existing laws are bad, and speculate what effects passage of a mag ban will have on us, and how we should find a replacement for our newly re-elected Senator Frosh. That is fine and good and might help to soothe our gun rights egos, but what we really need to talk about is what we need to do now to defeat this crappy legislation.
It is not passed yet, so let's get going and fight this tooth and nail until we get the final vote our way!

Sent the following to Senate Judiciary. Sent an "Open Letter to the Maryland General Assembly" to the Sun and Post.

I am opposed to any change in the capacity to magazines for firearms.

I am not happy with arbitrary numbers for magazine capacity pulled out of thin air. If the number of rounds in a magazine are cut in half will I be 50% safer? No one can guarantee my complete safety, so please stop using every tragedy that comes along to pick at my liberties. It does nothing but drive a wedge deeper between the people and politicians. I chose coming down hard on criminals and then keep the bad guys in jail for the entire sentence...no more serving half a sentence. Also, having the information on the mental unstable sent to NICS, (The National Instant Criminal Background Check System), to head them off before they acquiring firearms. Currently, the disturbed people among us are unknown to the feds when they apply for a firearm. Change those two factors instead of making feel-good laws.

Additionally, any change to magazine capacity will cause a multitude of issues with firearm competitions that are held though-out the state. It will also bring a great deal of trouble to the law-abiding citizen, reek havoc on firearms dealers and add more confusion to the already complicated gun laws. Laws that criminals don't follow anyway, thus it only puts a burden on the good guys...the folks who vote. It is in every ones best interest that you put aside this effort.

    Respectfully,

I am a Law Enforcement Officer, or was, I'm Retired now.
I am an avid supporter of the Rights and Freedoms afforded us by the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Perhaps the good Senator should be looking for co-sponsors on a Bill to stop the Revolving Door Policy of the Courts.

For 40 plus years I and every other Officer in Maryland have been fighting to stop a system that allows a Felon to be back on the street before we finish our paperwork.

This sounds a lot like the Ban the bullet, Ban the gun Bills, Lets see what type of restriction he will propose, this could be a real can of worms, hopefully we will not go the way of Calif.

What color is the sky in your world? They would love nothing better than to deem us all criminals and disarm and disenfranchise us and see if we can get the Obama SCOTUS to reverse them years from now if we ever get there.
    No, I know. THat's what I meant.

What the government giveth, the government taketh away.

If you go back a few pages someone posted the bill. It's the same law that we have now but instead of saying 20 it now says 10. It is a waste of tax payer time which should be used to fix the states budget and lowering our taxes. That way we all have more money to spend at the local shops and grow the economy.

    Thanks,

Puzzled, Are we talking "BAN" or "PURCHASE". If it's "BAN" than almost all gun owners in Maryland become instant Criminals as I know very few Modern Handguns that hold 10 or less Rounds, exception a Revolver.

If we are talking "Purchase" then Pa. and Va. will see that much more business.

A Quote of "Used in the commission of a Crime" was used in one Post.

All Shootings are a Crime. The only question is was it in justifiable Self Defense? Hence if we use a Glock to prevent our Murder, would we be a Criminal under this proposed Legislation?

Perhaps I should consider my Toks as House Guns? Wait I have two, would that constitute 9+9+1+1, Holy Crap thats 20. (Have the Yugo)

Never mind I'll just use the 12Ga. Semi so the Scumbag has a chance, Lots of luck I fired a Combat Course over 100 times.

DEAD MEAT, but now the Civil Case, did I give my potential killer a fair chance?

Comrade, what ever happened to Life, Liberty and Property.

Help Me, someone waxed the sliding Board toward Socialism. :sad20: and they follow like Sheep.

Line up the ACLU, Ain't gonna comply.

Check out the 911 police response time in Montgomery county where the big antigun politicians live. They have an average 6 minutes response time for a 911 call and compare it to Baltimore City where 70% of calls had a response times are within 20 minutes. What happens when someone breaks into your house or you get mugged?

Not to steal this thread, but...

Wed was a very unusual day when it comes to 911 response calls. We had that craptastic snow storm during rush hour and it took people as much as 12 hours to get home.

It also put an unusually very heavy load on the 911 system.

However, if what happened to us is anything like a normal reaction from the police, specifically the Montgomery County Police, then I'm going to have to complete agree with the above.

    Story:

My wife had gotten to the overpass of Wotten Pkwy and Rt 270. At which point the alternator in her car died.

    She 8 months pregnant.

When the care died, she called 911 because there was no way to get out of the car without being hit, as she was in the far left lane and people were going around her on both sides. 911 was actually busy... and it was NOT possible to get through (not really suprising).

The car was also getting cold fast.

I found the direct dial number for the Rockville Montgomery County Police, and called them.

When I explained the situation to the woman on duty at the station her response was:

"What do you want us to do about it?"

    I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

She literally didn't give a shit (based on her tone). Based on this, I can't imagine why I would even consider letting a police department, who would hire an idiot like that, to be my first and only line of defense.

I can understand being inundated with calls, not having enough officers, etc... but I can't believe that someone would:

    1) Not care to that extent

    2) Be so foolish as to actually say something like that (which clearly indicates a severe lack of mental acuity).

On the flip side, I called the direct dial number for the State Police and by-passed 911, getting though immeadiately. Though they were inundated with calls, and even though it took 5 hours to get to her car, they got someone there eventually and kept calling her every 15 mintues to make sure she was OK. They took responsibility and did their job professionally.

Oh, and I now have a new crusade... and that's to get someone fired.
