    True or false?

You can be arrested and fined for carry long gun in Maryland in the open.

    True or false?
    You’ll need a carry permit to carry a 16in keltec sub2000.

I was told “true” for both questions I asked at a local gun store

It is legal to open carry a long gun in MD, but you can be arrested for other things like disturbing the peace.

Theoretically, you do not need a permit to open carry a Keltec Sub2k. But that doesn't mean you won't be made an example of either.

You cannot carry a loaded long gun of any sort in a vehicle in MD, even with a permit. Unloaded is OK (per state law) but there may be jurisdictions where that is illegal.

Baltimore City has a long gun ordinance.

A MD W&C permit will not change how you are treated carrying a long gun

Your Question #2 is simple .

Wherever otherwise Legal ( and/ or Wise & Prudent) to carry a slung long gun , a Handgun permit is unneeded and irrelevant.

In addition to the above referenced Grandfathered local ordnances, long guns are still subject to laws and rules about where firearms generally are prohibited .

Even where Legal , walking around with slung long gun has a predictable high likelihood in most areas of making an intimate acquaintance with the Men and Women of Law Enforcement. Even if not ultimately charged with anything, it will be chunks of time from your life you won't get back .
