So, by my count, we need to get 28 Dems to Oppose the bill if it gets out of committee. There are currently 8 listed as of this posting, who is one the fence we can work on, we need 20 more.

Not an insurmountable number given the number of folks turning out.

I used the Associated Gun Club email blast. Most reps didn't reply. Most of the ones that did were either true 2A supporters or those paying lip service according to the list given here. Finally got a responde from Leudtke in D14 (not my district - mine is even worse: D20). He firmly supports the bill as he thinks that infringing on law-abiding citizens will lessen crime and prevent further tragedies.

I plan to email him back and tell him that while I can't vote for or against him as he's not my rep, I will ensure his oponent is well funded and help in any way I can to unseat him.

    23A-D--James W. Hubbard
    23A-D--Geraldine Valentino-Smith

Both Hubbard and Smith, my so-called representatives, are co-sponsors of this Obama-nation. Please correct this of you can. Thanks!
They are my representatives also and I spoke to both on Feb 6th. Valentino-Smith was nice enough to come out of a meeting to speak to me but did not have the time of day once she realized I was an opponent for the bill. She is going to vote for it no matter what.

Hubbard actually was more open to me and actually dropped his conversation with someone else mid-sentence when he realized I was a constituent. He told me he was not in favor of a lot of the parts of the bill; what those are he kept to himself. He actually understood me when I told him when I told him that an AR-15 was the closest thing I could use to train for M4s. Ultimately, he will vote for the bill but we might be able to convince him to support some pro-2A amendments.

I'm going to be honest. They have the votes by a larger majority than the Senate. Any amendments we can get, we need to push for.

That's too bad. My gut feeling was that Hubbard and Doug Peters (Senate) side were reasonable, but I never trusted Valentino-Smith. Smith positioned herself as moderate, but she struck me as one of those ultra feminist gun hating know it all elitist white liberals of the Kathleen Kennedy Townsend mold. I suppressed that gut feeling ("ChannelCat, calm down, you're prejudging her, and are being a little paranoid"), but it looks like my gut feeling was spot on...

Confirmation.... Glenn (45th District) supports the bill.... here is what she sent me:

OPEN LETTER TO CONSTITUENTS ON THE ISSUE OF GUN CONTROL

AND LEGISLATION IN THE 2013 LEGISLATIVE SESSION

    February 12, 2013

    Dear Constituent,

This letter is prepared for you so that you will know my position on gun control and any anticipated

    legislation.

While I certainly support the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the U.S.A. which provides the

right to bear arms; I strongly support any and all efforts to strengthen our gun laws so that instances

of gun violence will no longer be a way of life for far too many people/victims/families. I am a

co-sponsor of House Bill 107 which reduces to 10 rounds the maximum capacity for ammunition of

a detachable magazine for a firearm. I am also a co-sponsor of House Bill 490 which makes it a

misdemeanor to possess or use specified firearm ammunition during and in relation to the commission

of a crime; the bill also establishes appropriate penalties. For more information on these two bills,

please refer to the Maryland General Assembly website and look up the bills by their numbers.

As always, it is my honor to represent you in the Maryland General Assembly. Please do not hesitate

to contact me at any time for additional information or to let me know your position and opinion on

any issue of interest to you.

    Thank you,

    Cheryl D. Glenn

Still not sure if she's for the bill or against it.

    Dear Mr. empire550:

Thank you for contacting my office concerning legislation regarding increased gun control. The legislation that is generating the most controversy is the Governor’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013. This bill not only attempts to limit the purchase of “assault” weapons, but also addresses background checks, mental health and school safety. The text of the bill can be found at: http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/webmga/frmMain.aspx?pid=billpage&tab=subject3&id=hb0294&stab=01&ys=2013RS.

My offices, and the offices of all my colleagues, are receiving large volumes of letters, phone calls and emails from citizens who oppose, and others who support this legislation. Personally, as firm believer of Second Amendment rights, I have some issues supporting this bill in its present form. There are parts of it I find attractive, particularly the mental health and firearms training components, but other parts, as presently written, would impose excessive regulatory burdens on legitimate gun owners without providing any significant public safety benefit. This bill and the other “Gun Control Bills” will be heard by the Health & Government Operations (HGO) and/or Judiciary Committee, where they will be subject to public hearings and a Committee vote prior to reaching the House floor. I fully expect every bill to be heavily debated and many will never be voted out of Committee. As a member of the Environmental Matters Committee, I will not have a vote until a bill reaches the House floor.

I also believe Maryland citizens have a right to feel safe in their day-to-day lives, and that reevaluating current laws and regulations may be necessary in order to ensure this safety. I will be paying close attention to this issue as the session progresses.

I ask that you take some time to review this bill and vote on my poll at www.pambeidle.com. I would like to hear from you about this important issue.

    Sincerely,

IMHO, anything other than an "against" should not be counted on:

    Sally Jameson - Opposes

    CT Wilson - Opposes

I can't get a response from Jameson, and I heard Wilson was on the fence. Murphy is a lackey of MoM (and hates guns).

Response from Brian McHales office (District 46).

    Mr. ,
I would have to say that Delegate McHale is "undecided" due to the fact that he does not serve on the committees hearing this bill. When the bill comes out of committee, it will probably be amended. He will read it at that time, listen to the debate and keep his constituents advice in mind.

I hope someone gets an answer out of him. I left three phone messages and no one has called back. I have emailed him at least seven times, only one response, and that was mumbo jumbo. When pressed for a stance on the bill, again no response. I intend to seek out someone from his office tomorrow.

    5:00PM
I just spoke to a staff person by phone, after calling once more. She stated that she will pass my message to Del. Rudolph, and when pressed further, stated she doesn't know his stance. Also, I inquired about who decides which emails are read, and the answer was "we talley". Unf'ing believeable! It appears the email subjects are not even being read!

Just spoke to staff for Del. Dulaney-James (D-34A). While he (staffer) did not say outright that she opposed. I was told she would not support a bill that did not ensure safety of school children, or that did not address mental health issues. She also would not vote for a bill that impedes 2A rights of lawful gunowners, while doing nothing to stop criminals from obtaining a gun illegally. While it is not "I oppose this bill" it was encouraging at least. And her office is receiving over 5000 emails a day.

I've learned that the only way to get a response from Ron Young is to put a check in his pocket.... he's been drinking the MOM kool aid in hopes of furthering his and his wife's political aspirations in Maryland...

What a crock of bs.... This from Carolyn Howard from District 24:

Thank you for taking the time to express your opinion. I know your time is
valuable and your opinion is very important to me. I consider all of the data
available to me as I review bills and in my deliberations and votes in the House
    Standing Committee, Ways and Means.

Standing Committees are the backbone of the legislative process. These
committees make recommendations on nearly all proposals brought before the
General Assembly, except local legislation which usually is handled by the
    select committees.

Each legislator is appointed by the presiding officer to one principal standing
committee. There are six standing committees in the House of Delegates who
consider all statewide legislation. These committees hold hearings on proposed
legislation and recommend to the General Assembly which legislation should pass
and which should fail. Amendments may be considered prior to passage. Standing
committees are the most significant to the legislative process.

Detailed information regarding the legislative process is available on the
Maryland General Assembly Website. (URL http://mgaleg.maryland.gov/webmga/frm1st.aspx?tab=home)
Standing committee information can be found in "Your Voice in Annapolis," found
by clicking the Legislative Services tab on the Maryland General Assembly's
    Homepage.

I commend you for taking the time to express your position. Citizen
participation is a vital part of our democratic process.

I'm in District 30. Here's the response I received from Ron George. If he stays true to his word, he's on our side:

I absolutely will not vote in favor of the Governor's gun bill. I am a NRA supporter and know that MD has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation. We need better enforcement of them and tougher consequences, but not more laws.

I am addressing the need to investigate mental health and mass violence aspects through the introduction of HOUSE BILL 969 - "Commission to Consider Mental Health Related Ways to Limit Mass Violence by Individuals with Antisocial Personality Disorders, Depressive Disorders, or other Mental Illness". This bill will be heard Mar 12th in the Health and Govt Operations Committee, has 75 bi-partisan cosponsors, and the support of school psychologists, state psychiatrists, mental health and social work associations. My hope is to be proactive to reducing acts of mass violence, instead of reactive and imposing restrictions on law-abiding citizens.

Thank you for getting involved by contacting me and others. It is so important to hear from those we represent, both on the big and small issues, and for voters to be aware of what they are asking for at the ballot box. Further regulations, bigger govt and more taxes is not the answer and has not worked for our society or our budget. I will continue to work hard for responsible, common sense legislation that is of long-term benefit.

    Sincerely,

    Delegate Ron George
