The SHTF has not happened yet. Am cautiously expectant that it won't either.

Not sure how well my neighbors are armed. My roof top Korean next to me, definitely he has something. He was in the ROK army long ago. Old school Korean; wiry and tough. He's like over 80 years old too. Still cuts his own grass, climbs trees in his BDU's and saws off branches occasionally. I'm appreciative he's on my left flank.

Everyone across the street from me?

    1. First neighbor catty corner to my left; big dude, nice, lives with a woman whose equally as nice. Don't trust the woman's live in son though. I don't think they're armed.

    2. Single White Female directly in front. Strange woman, divorced, lots of boyfriends over at times. She may have a pistol.

    3. Old lady and her 50 year old son living with her catty corner to my right. AFAIK they are both ultra liberal. I don't trust the son at all. Constantly walking his dog like 20 times a day and scoping out my fortifications. Strange fella too.... never goes anywhere, talks to himself and yells at his dog. Suppressed anger to the point of boiling over.

So.. am I going to entertain arming any of them if they ask?

    Nope.

    So much to reply to!

Yeah, NextDoor is full of liberal whiny crybabies. Every once in a while there's a good nugget that comes out of it, and in my area there seem to be some rabid right-wingers too :) They always get shot down by the crybabies, but it's fun while it lasts.

I told my wife that we didn't need to over-prepare - where we live, we can go hunting for whatever it is we need when the SHTF, 'cause most of our neighbors are unarmed.

Left of me? Unarmed. Across from him? Unarmed.
Directly across? Armed & friendly. Next to him? Most likely unarmed, still friendly.
Right of me? I'm thinking unarmed, but they have skills that I could use. Also friendly.
Next to them? Guarantee they're armed (unless they are prohibited, which is a possibility).

Other than that, there's like 3 houses I expect to be armed, and several I know are NOT armed. I'm friendly with the armed ones and some of the unarmed, but liberal arts degrees won't get you much once the SHTF, so I'm confident. I also have both a 4-hour and 1-hour bugout plan.

Wife is on board, and is familiar with all of our firearms. Hell, she bought most of our ammo. Gotta love a good woman!

Had a conversation with a conservative I know today, he said he regrets not purchasing a firearm before all this COVID stuff.

If things go sideways in your neighborhood I'm thinking that 50 year old guy that yells at his dog needs to go. I think he is a neighborhood liability.

You would be surprised. Found a lost puppy with a tag on it a couple weeks back, walked it to the next street over. No one answered the door but the garage was open, stuck my head politely in without entering and gave a "hallow" to the left was a very large gunsafe. Daughter eventually came to the door and got the puppy and was very glad.

Lots of closed gunowners who wont speak openly about their "in their walls" beliefs vs. outside their walls.

I used to be armed until the boating accident but after this I am resolved to hit up an IP and get something in 5.45x39 once people calm down as that ammo has not gone crazy. Finally I have a vague enough excuse to buy. I did however recently find 2 5.45 AR mags but I don't know if anyone reputable still makes barrels. Still bought them though just to be safe as I hear they are not exactly common.

I am more rural than some of you. Immediate neighbors are good and I don't know if they are armed. Very friendly old couple nearby are avid hunters. I don't really know the rest of the people around but I often hear people having fun blasting in the woods and I am deeply offended each time over not being invited. :)

Wonder what sort of spike in accidental discharges we’re going to see with all these commies picking up their new toys?

Not sure. On one hand they won't practice proper safety precautions and may send a round accidentally, on the other hand they may just throw it in the closet and not look at it until they move or get broken into one day.

NextDoor is a septic tank full of rabid gun grabbers. All the Mommy types LOVE environments like that, where they can hold court and shame - with a backup horde of harpies - anyone who dares to talk about self reliance of any kind, let alone self defense. At least here in MoCo, that platform is a leftist's dreamland.

*****They won't hesitate to bring up evil Orange Man Bad either. So much hate. People like this operate on emotion and get very very angry if you aren't 100% behind inclusiveness, globalism, climate change, reducing the achievement gap through more school funding as long as their kids don't have to be exposed to the "diversity" themselves, wickedly pro gun control to the point of having the police forcibly confiscate and "shoot dead" armed citizens who own legally purchased firearms for protection, etc..

People like this are generally not armed, but are extremely vocal, pushy, and obnoxiously self righteous. I've seen people like this make a scene at stores because they have a x-mas tree but no representation of every other religion out there (you know, to show tolerance!), and complain obnoxiously and loudly to a guy in a humvee that he is destroying the environment by driving such a huge truck...:sad20:

I've lived in this county (MoCo) for some time, and that Next Door app has really brought out the confidence of the liberal harpies who just try and shame anyone who even remotely or obliquely doesn't follow their ideology 100%.

These types of people are nuts, and emotionally unstable in many ways. If the SHTF they will most likely have big time nervous break downs when their ideas of tolerance, and community harmony comes head first into the fist of reality of scarce resources, and being prepared if that call to 911 doesn't exactly bring the police to your doorstep as quickly as needed when yutes or desperate people try to take your stuff, or to harm your family.

Don't mistake some people's kindness with weakness. Normals *will* push back if pushed enough, and it could potentially get very very ugly. Next Door is not reflective of many peoples ideals - it's just tolerated because the vocal crazies are harmless for now. :)

I think not all of the panicked first-time buyers are necessarily liberals or would-be gun grabbers. I frequently shake my head when I learn how little attention almost everyone pays to politics and what the lawmakers are doing to them in this country. Maybe this pandemic will help wake up more regular people who just were't paying attention? So perhaps if someone approaches us and we maybe know them but not necessarily their politics, we should give them the benefit of the doubt and see where the conversation goes. Just my 2 cents worth.
Agree 100%, my Brother in Law texted me the other day, asking for my advice about what home defense shotgun he should get. First I laughed thinking first he’s gonna have to wait a few months until there are some to buy somewhere again. Him and my sister are conservatives, but not gun owners. Not anti-gun either, it’s just never been that important to them, but it seems that is now changing. I am considering loaning a piece or two of my collection to them if he can’t buy one sometime soon (worried a little about the safety aspect of it) then make sure when places are open again & things calm down a little, get them to the range for some serious training and practice with his own.

Not all non-gun owners are liberals and gun grabbers. We live in an all too often arrogant bubble in the 2A community, and very much so on this forum. In real life, life outside of gun forums and websites, I’ve found guns and gun ownership is far down the list on most peoples’ list of concerns. Many of my conservative friends don’t own, shoot, or care all that much about guns, but find it cool that I do (and certainly love when I give them pounds of venison and bags of deer jerky). Alienating them and calling them names is just plain stupid, as they will vote conservative, as they always have (which still serves our cause), they’re just not joining the NRA, MSI, or marching down main street Annapolis “Picketing”, and that is not an insult that some here sadly continually take it to be. Some people just have other concerns in their lives. If they start voting Democrat, then let the insults fly by all means.

I made a comment in another thread maybe just before this post. It wasn't directed to people like your brother-in-law, but to people that likely voted for antigun politicians and now were shopping for firearms. I'm glad, like you, that persons who may have previously supported the right (or politicians supporting the right) are having the opportunity to take advantage of it.

The trick is to get enough, that one more is hardly noticeable. I can parade new guns through the house with impunity, as long as she doesn't see me bring it home from the store in a box.

Amusing and similar to my situation. My wife has a “don’t ask” policy. I have a “don’t tell” policy. Works out well for us both!

I stopped into Continental Arms the other day just looking for 12g snap caps. I have had a few people ask me to show them how to use the shotguns they own lately. Many people are learning a new language. NO HQL I was there for 5 minutes and must have been five times It was spoken. After all this is over maybe some people will wake up.

I feel pretty secure on our street. Dead end street on a peninsula. Daughter and son in law next door. Behind them and also next door is a retired Navy Captain, armed GTG. Behind them and us are a couple we don't interact much with. My only concern is their daughter recently moved back in with them living in an apartment above the detached garage. She's had questionable boyfriends in the past. Across the street is another retired Navy Captain also GTG. At the beginning of the street is a lady that seems to know what's going on in the entire neighborhood, keeps track of who's coming and going but not in a bad way. Also at that end is a very nice couple who's son in law is MSP. They're always out in their yard and also know who's coming and going down the street. I've seen them shooting with the grandson in their backyard . Down from them is a Navy Commander in special forces and that's all I'll say about him. Plenty of deer, squirrels, rabbits, foxes etc. and if all that fails there's a heard of Black Angus cattle near the end of the road.:innocent0

I'm looking on the bright side, think how many of these firearms will be for sale at decent prices after all of this is over
Not all of them. As soon as the government makes them feel warm and fuzzy again, at least a certain percentage of them will call the police to come take and destroy the "weapons of war" in their house.

On a positive note, I have a State Trooper living on the street behind me and a US Capitol Officer on the street next to me. My neighbor across the street is retired Navy, a hunter, and has two sons that are police. We often discuss guns. My in-laws live a couple streets away, I know my FIL has a shotgun and some pistols that I helped him research a couple years back. Between my personal guns and my department issued guns, I've got a pistol and long gun for each family member. The youngest 3 aren't old enough yet to carry... but just in case!

The bigger issue is ammo. I've got +/- 1000 rounds of 5.56 and 9mm, maybe 100 shotgun shells and under 200 rounds of 30-06. I have reloading equipment, but don't have reloading supplies yet. Once things cool down again I plan to get a supply of powder and projectiles for my rifle rounds. 5.56 has been cheap enough that it doesn't make sense to reload, and I just haven't found time to shot the M1 enough to justify reloading it yet (I've got a couple hundred pieces of brass though). Shame on me for only halfway planning for a crisis, lesson learned!
