Is it smooth or does it take some umph flicking the lever is what I've wanted to know. Always thought they were cool in movies.

Depends on the gun and who has worked it. Even a cheap worked Rossi can be smoothed using a sharpening stone to be like butter. Winchesters and Marlins are ok out of the box.

Well, you guys got me to thinking......and since I shot a couple of lever action rifles at a big shoot here in NC, I figured it was about time I got one. And, well, with working in a pawn shop, I can get a good deal now and again....

1983 Glenfield 30A with JM proofmark and Tasco scope. Don't know if I am keeping the scope on it yet.

Just picked up this 1990 Marlin 30AS on Gunbroker. Finally got around to picking it up from Gary @ High Rock. This thing is in really great condition! I purchased a 30AS back in 1989 from Best Products in Towson and sold it about 12 years ago and have been kicking myself in the ass ever since?

Just picked up a sweet Ithaca M49 in .22 today. This thing shoots amazing for such a simple rifle. Couldn't believe the price I got it for either!

It will match my two M66 shotguns nicely.

Nice is that the one that was on Armslist? I thought about it but decided to hold out for a "49R"

I have the single shot M49. Uncle gave it to me when I was a little kid and it was my first firearm. Not that good looking, though.

I was surprised this one was so nice. Usually they are beat to hell and the paint peels off. Both of my M66's were pretty beat up when I got them.

Paint is blown off the high spots on mine. Damn ejector never did work, I swear one day I'll fix it. If you ever decide to part with that one let me know, I might take it off your hands.

Is that a 16" or 20" barrel. Love mine. Took while to tweak the bullet guides to take .45LC and.454 but once it was set-up worked great. Gun does everything my. 45-70 does and more.

It's 19 1/2" from the end of the receiver to the end of the barrel so I guess that means it's 20 inches, right?

Tell me about "tweaking bullet guides".

Yes. I have been thinking about buying a 20" blued to back up my 16" stainless. As for the cartridge guides, see this website for the procedure http://marauder.homestead.com/files/rossi_92_cartridge_guide.htm It takes time and patience, what I did was load a few primerless dummy rounds in both .454 and .45LC with a variety of bulletheads for fit and testing. Painted blue for safety, though double check EVERY TIME. Anytime you do this kind of work you are compromising, there is no perfect solution but with a little effort you can usually find a sweet spot that meets your needs.

I put 20 rounds or so through this one the other night. Hit my little 4" steel plate 18 times out of 20. Out of the 20 rounds, 6 or 7 got stuck in the barrel and had to be persuaded out. The others flew out fine. Guess mine will need work one day too.
