I wonder if there is a possibility the gun fell into the back seat from a holster or something. Not really an excuse, since she still lost control of it.

Police determined the gun had been on the rear floorboard. She was driving when shot. Her son retrieved it from the floorboard at some point, meaning he wasn't secured in his child seat when he did it. So either he was unsecured while the vehicle was moving, the gun was accessible to him on the floorboard when he got into the truck, or the vehicle stopped along the way and he got to the gun while unsupervised. Catastrophic fail regardless. The gun didn't just fall into reach of his hands.

I do love the comment "well that backfired" :lol2:

Glad the kid was not hurt and not to scarred from this.

I must be very OCD because when ever I'm with a gun I know exactly where the hell it is and where it's pointed. Loaded in a car with kids? Man that is some reckless shit there and she paid the price.

Wasn't it last year? a cop in New Mexico had virtually the same thing happen, but his Glock was loose on the floor and again, unsecured kid.

I didn't see anywhere mentioned the type of holster. If any.

I am still befuddled how a small kid like that could manipulate (to his hands a large handgun) to shoot it. I can also see that gun leaving his hand(s) with the recoil and probably hitting himself in the face. It doesn't mention if he was injured in any way.

Maybe it was the small Kimber? If it was cocked, that safety (if on) would probably not be hard for a 4yo to undo, then of course the trigger, no problem.

My girl 11 and boy 9, can't even pull the trigger of a double action revolver. They can both cock it and fire it. I doubt any 4yo could cock a revolver or chamber a round in a semi auto. I do wonder too what kind of guns people are carrying around with toddlers in tow, where they have no problem shooting them.
