Stephenson said he's planning a bill for the next legislative session that might attract Beretta and other gun manufacturers to Utah by reducing restrictions and eliminating sales tax on machinery and parts used to make guns.

Sen. Howard Stephenson, R-Draper, said he saw an opportunity for Utah after Maryland's governor recently signed gun control legislation that Maryland-based gun maker Beretta called offensive.

Afraid we will see a lot of this.

Won't take much to offer better benefits than MD.

Hopefully them and LWRC's employees would be up for a move. Better than seeing them unemployed and better for the gun makers as they wouldn't have to train new people. And more job loss would be another mark against Owemalley. My guess is Beretta would go to VA to stay near DC for their gov't contracts.

Not seeing a problem with this. Maryland is a terrible business area and deserves to have its industry die. They better just hope that libertarians never make it in government or else their precious military industrial complex will be gone as well. And then what, they will have Hopkins and that’s about it.

It's always fascinating to see the machinations of government. We make laws here in Maryland that chases businesses away and then offer incentives to keep them here -- if only the legislature could ponder the unintended consequences of bills before passing them.
