I was looking through gunbroker and noitced in at least one instance a vendor would not ship a Springfield M1A to Maryland. I was wondering if this firearm for some reason falls outside Marylands currrent laws for rifle ownership? And also would this weapon be futher classified as an "assult weapon"?

Don't have the list handy, but I believe the M1A is currently a "regulated firearm" in MD and yes, will be classified as an assault rifle under the new laws, and banned. So will M1 carbines. Garands will be excepted.

M1 Carbines are only banned if they have enough prohibited features (i.e. paratrooper model with folding stock and pistol grip will be banned but not a standard stock carbine)

OP had nothing to do with M1 carbines.

The M1A (and all copies meaning M14's) are currently regulated and probably will be banned under Owe'Malley's bill.

So if you want one get it now!

Did the ad say it was being sold with a high capacity magazine? If so that would be the reason.

A lot of out of state vendors are too lazy to research the law.
The M1A uses 20 round magazines, which are not restricted in Maryland. The vendor is too lazy or ignorant to look that up.
