Of course he changes the definition for Mass shootings to 4 or more people getting shot (not killed) in a single day. HuffPo

Stewart is very articulate and usually makes a good case. He also tends to pass any basic fact checks. A lot of the younger folks pay attention to what he says.

Jon Stewart is, generally speaking, a smart cookie.

He just happens to be a smart cookie that disagrees with us on this issue.

We would be wise to be wary of him.

IIRC the total number of people killed in mass shootings over the past 30 years was slightly more than 500. Compare that to any other form of homicides. It's a drop in the bucket.

    John Stewart is an asshat.

Like Rush, he is an entertainer, not a journalist.

Except that he's an entertainer who checks his facts far better and thinks about his commentary far more than most journalists. He's a journalist in all but name.

There's a reason why he was voted the most trusted news source in America a few years back....

Remember that by the FBI's definition, a "mass shooting" is any shooting that involves 4 or more victims in a single incident. Not fatalities, just victims. Given the situation in places like Chicago, Detroit, Philly, New Orleans, etc., I don't have a hard time believing that we have an FBI-defined "mass shooting" every day.

The media prefers to cover shootings involving affluent or important people. They don't care about poor, rank-and-file victims.

EDIT: Also remember that mass shootings still account for a tiny fraction of shooting victims. Gearing any policy towards them specifically is foolhardy at best. This is how we counter people like Jon Stewart. In this case, he is factually correct. You can't argue that. What you can do quite handily is say that his correct facts are irrelevant.

EDIT 2: Yes, I fixed the grammar of this post a lot. Sorry.... :innocent0

John Stewart is incredibly smart and well polished. He thinks about everything he is going to say and normally has already thought out counter points for any counter argument people will give him. He also rarely says things that are not backed up by facts (And if he does he is known to apologize on live air) and then he is able to follow those facts up with statements that will hit your emotional side. Now, his “facts” in this instance are technically right since mass shootings just rely on victims and not deaths.

All this taken into account, it is incorrect to call him just a comedian. He is most likely one of the few actual journalists left on TV and I like him quite a bit. It just sucks that he is anti gun because having a person like him would do us very well.

Just point out that Obama has killed more children through collateral damage in drone strikes, than have been killed in all school shootings in the history of the U.S.

That usually gets their liberal knickers in a twist.

So your telling me the future of the country is in the hands of young people who trust comedians to tell the truth.

It's not John Stewart we need to fear.

But now I know why I ignore young people :)

Unfortunately, a highly-educated and very articulate, funny-to-his-large-liberal-audience, asshat. That makes him worth keeping a close eye on......

He is a comedian.... nothing more, nothing less.... and not nearly as funny as he used to be.

It's also easier to get people to remember and repeat a funny joke than it is a boring statistic.

People like to laugh, and comedians are disarming and persuasive by nature.

Don't underestimate the power of a smile :)
