So I have a SA Operator 45. It has a SA installed factory magwell... and guess what, it's illegal under idpa and uspsa rules. Why is this? I can use it in select like weird open only where you compete with $6k+ guns, but not service guns.... I mean it comes like this, but I would have to remove it to use it?! What's the point? Its how I carry it..... Seems to me these comps are a sham IMO.

Shoulda kept your glock, don't you have a Beretta you can use, haha.

Uspsa limited division will work. Whatever division you choose, can just compare your results with single stack or cdp division. Just do it, lotsa fun.

also i think idpa has a not for score option, but that gun may work in esp but iirc i did have to remove my magwell to shoot my 2011 in esp.

Dude i sold off that glock like... idk 12 years ago? maybe more? It was a gen 1 lol. that M9 I sold off before the MDS commemorative 1911s from Lou45 (which maybe I might look to sell off to finance a Prodigy lol) I do have M&P 9 and M&P 45s, but I prefer that Operator 45, its my smoothest and most accurate handgun for me

From what I remember, and I haven't looked at the IDPA equipment appendices in a while, is that you wouldn't be able to run it in SSP.

It should be good for ESP and CDP as long as it meets the weight requirements and fits in the box.

Looking at the SSP and ESP mostly I mightve been reading too fast but it appeared that both banned the magwell extensions,

You wouldn't be able to run it in SSP cause it's single action only. ESP and CDP are fine. If you run it in ESP you will be at a disadvantage cause you're going up against people running 10+1 rounds. With CDP you will be 8+1.

ESP you're good to go but at a disadvantage due to capacity
    CDP you're good to go.
USPSA Single Stack you're good to go.

    Yup...
Glock 41 5.31inch barrel good to go.
    Bill Wilson owns IDPA.
He would never disallow standard size 1911s from his game when his income is largely from sales of them.
Only thing to worry about is weight.
    If it's under 43oz you're good.

i will admit though, some of it mightve been reading blurred a bit at 0200 :D but still; some of it still is a mess lol. Seems som eof the divisions forces me to either remove the magwell or compete with guns $5k above my price weight

CDP barrel is too large, it's a 5" barrel
There's no barrel limit in CDP, and A.3.3.23 specifically allows magazine wells. I have a 5" 1911 with a Dawson magwell, and it fits the IDPA box fine. Your gun is also presumably fine in USPSA Single Stack, which is where it's the most competitive.

I'm not saying the real problem here is a failure of thoroughly reading the rules, but... that's the real problem here. You would have done a lot better to have first asked "I've got this gun, what divisions is it legal in?" If you're going in with the assumption that you should be able to shoot a gun in any division, you're going to be disappointed. The divisions are there to give you some semblance of competitive equity with a particular gun.

Also, I'm going to push back slightly on "the gun has very little to do with whether you're competitive". That's true if we're talking about a P320 X5 Legion vs a Glock in Carry Optics, it's a lot less true when you're comparing a P365 to an Atlas Athena with a 170mm mag limit. I can do some good work with a P365X on the clock, but it's pretty obvious to me I'd be doing it faster with a heavier full-sized gun.

ETA: incidentally, I've been bit by "gun doesn't fit division" with a 9mm 1911 that had a full dustcover. Just a bit too heavy for USPSA Single Stack, and too heavy period for IDPA. Basically became my kid's SASP 1911.

I did add a comment saying similar lol
