Found this thing hanging out in the closet. I would appreciate any help in identifying this long gun. Thank you in advance.

Looks like an Enfield #4Mk1 to me, 303British caliber
should have markings on the band that goes around the stock at the back of the reciever near the bolt handle.

Someone in MOM's family was a collector of fine British weapons.

Looks like a Long Branch #4MK1 which were made in Toronto Canada for the British military.
Look for an "L" inside a "B" marking on many of the metal parts. (Edit: or is that a "B" inside an "L"?)
There might be markings and a date on the left side of the receiver right above the magazine.
This rifle is known as being one of the finest and fasted bolt action rifles ever made.
The Military Channel says it's the #3 best military rifle behind the M-16 and the AK-47.

Good .303 British ammo has recently become available and is pretty affordable at gun shows for less than $1 per round.
Just look for the blue box from PPU/PRVI Partisan(from Serbia).

One does what one must do. I follow my heart. :D

P.S.: MOM, I reload for my Endfields. All of them are my babies. They are well fed and lovingly cared for. They want for absolutely nothing. :)
