Does anyone here uses Hodgon hs6 to reload 9mm 124gr lrn or plated rn?? i found some data using from 5.5gr to 6.8gr but i rather ask and research some more before trying out..:o

i was thinking to try 5 rounds with 5.7gr and 1.130 oal and go up from there, i have used winchester wsf but it seem to be almost impossible to find  and the hs6 is the only thing i think is easy to find.....

bc i loaded with 4.4gr wsf 124gr lrn at 1.160 and very consisten and cycles perfect but i think might be too long for hs6????

In my logbook I'm set at 1.145 but I shortened it to 1.126. I use a lee measure and it's .4cc of hs6 which works out to 5.5gr

thanks a lot, i really appreciate your help and save me the guessing, trial and error, i also use lee measure , and i use a lee 1000 pro, i have it set at my friends house because he doesn't have kids and plenty more space, we will be testing as soon as we have the time, thanks again for sharing....

Why would your COL be too long for another powder? COL for one particular bullet should be the same no matter your powder is. If it feeds fine then dont change your COL. Your charge weight on the other hand is a different story. If you go to a different powder, start at the min & work up your handloads.

1.145 seems to be the general consensus for the 124gr LRN but if yours is cycling good a little longer stick with it. Keep in mind you can always go a little shorter if problems arise

mhmmm i think you are right COL should be the same and i should work with the amount of powder... well i did use 1.160 with 4.4 gr of wsf because i was just testing and worked great i mean it cicle and was very consistent, but i have loaded before with wsf at 1.145 and was good too i actually rather the 1.145 so i will stick with it...

i changed the col because i lost my log book with my data, so because i didnt remember i started with a low charge and safest col....

i will be trying the 124gr @ 4.7gr 1.145" this weekend i will post results hopefully everything goes well.

    thank guys for your input...

HS6 makes a good steel load for 9x23mm or 38 Super. You can keep the velocity in the 1300-1350 range easily, unlike AutoComp which I use for Major loads in USPSA Open.
For 9mm I like Unique. I also use it for 9x23mm loads that are as slow as 9mm. 5.1g drives a 124g Ranier plated at about 1080 FPS.

I'm happy with HS-6 but with compact and sub compact would I be better served with a faster powder? 9mm @ 1.115 to 1.125 has worked for me much longer they stick in my glock mags.

    Hodgdon says 5.8 - 6.6 for a 125 gr LCN bullet.

And has been said, COAL is based on magazine (too long doesn't fit) and feeding (too short doesn't feed well).

If you CHANGE the COAL for a given bullet, you should lower the charge and work the load back up, especially if it is a heavier load.

well i have prepared few 5.7gr of hs6 with a 1.145 on 125gr lrn and 124gr plated rn, and since i dont work tomorrow i will go test them on the range... if they work good then that will be my new recipe and i will be using them on a m&p pro 5" barrel so im guessing it will be fine i have 5 rounds with a reduced lenght , i cant play much with the charge because my lee disc on the 40 size drops 5.7gr it was less but because using wsf i had to use a bit to bore up that size so throw exactly 4.7g of wsf... and the number below on the disc i dont remember the number but it throws 5.2gr and i think that might be too low... well i also have 5 rounds with 5.7 at 1.160 just to test i dont need super high pressure rounds just accurate at 25' and reliable enough to cycle the gun.... i will post results tomorrow.

I think my LGS may actually have some of this powder. Is it good for .45 and .38 also?
