4k is not a lot, and how much does it cost to join and maintain membership, 500 for lifetime membership, though I bet a lot of people go yearly and accidental death and dismemberment is very specific, basically if you shoot yourself or get shot by someone doing something dumb.

Those AD&D policies cost the sponsoring org nothing. They usually get a small kickback on any sales on top of that.

The insurance company will work the list and try to get members to sign up for $100K to $1M policies. They are not very expensive and payouts occur in limited circumstances.

The insurance company wants to sell "upgrades" to the policy,, this is a "foot in the door" for them.
