Hello all, I have a Les Baer custom carry Stainless on the way. It is the 5" model they offer. I'm a big guy 6'1" 280 lbs, and wanted to see what others do for holsters with stainless steel guns. Thanks!

For CCW, I carry an SR9C.

I'm 6'0", 199.9 lbs ;) and I love my Theis (or is it Thies?) holster.

I wear it at about 3:00, very low. I had to make another hole in it for it to sit that low. Just the very back and end of the grip sits above the belt. So it's just a little bit harder to draw like that. But that's where it's comfortable. (I have a bit of a "muffin-top") So I deal with it.

Once I got used to it, I don't even notice I'm wearing it anymore.

    $65, with a lifetime guarantee.

Raven Concealment. $80 and worth the wait.

6'1" and 280!? Damn son, you'd give John Henry a run for his money!

Theis holsters are very nice. If you don't mind a 6 month wait and a price over 100 bucks Milt Sparks Versa Max II. All leather and beautiful craftsmanship. I own 3 and it was worth the wait for all of them.

Holster preferences vary per person. That said, my Dale Fricke holsters compare favorably to my raven concealment holster, imo. Not that I have any issues with the RC, I don't. I just prefer the former. Dale's customer service is excellent, too.

Most likely it will be CCW and range.

For CCW I carry a G19 in a Raven ACR. I also use it at the range but some people have heart attacks when they see it :sad20:

For open carry (like classes and such) I use a Safariland ALS. For IDPA I use a Raven Phantom.

If you can open carry where you are without freaking-out strangers, then go OWB. If not, go IWB. I bought a Milt Sparks VM2, which is IWB, and have been carrying my 1911SC Rounded-Butt Commander in it. I love the Commander size because I can just sit in the truck and have enough space to be comfortable (a full-size would be much more noticeable). The wait is long for a VM2, unless you spend the money for one that someone is trying to profit from. There are many rip-offs of the design. Probably the cheapest rip-off, which you could try that I can recommend is:

Kelleygunleather also makes a nicer version that you can get fast and I can tell you from owning the VM2 that I'd like the option of the loop being longer on the one side:

Now, another Milt Sparks Choice, and one that many prefer (and you don't have to wait for) is the Summer Special 2. It is sold at a few distributors. I highly recommend this, too:

Here's a free coupon code for Brownells: http://www.slickguns.com/product/brownells-coupon-free-shipping-orders-50-or-more

Another thing to think about is that with a full-size like yours, you may want something that sits the gun up really high, which can be good if you do a lot of driving.

Milt Sparks makes one holster that sits very high. I have read others discussing it. It is the 60TK model:

    http://www.miltsparks.com/60TK.htm

Again, you'll wait about 6 months for their holsters, tho. There is a more mass-produced model from someone else that rides almost as high, and more available. Can't remember who makes it, though.

I do know Mernickle holsters makes a very high-riding holster called the PS6. Here's Jeff from Gunblast reviewing one. Depending on your body shape, it may or may not be good for you:
