I travel a lot for work, often times pmags make their way into my checked bag, only problem I had was when I connected through LGA and TSA did a random search of my bag, but because I wasnt getting my bag out of checked baggage all they did was page me, ask me why I had 10 mags in my bag, ask me not to do it again, and generally made me feel like a criminal for 5 minutes, then apologized for the hassle and I boarded my flight.

Your issue was probably the fact that 30 round mags are banned in NY. I don't know why they would ask you not to do it again unless the TSA person didn't know what you can and can't check.

Let's say I fly to another state, on business, and while I'm there, I come across a deal on 30 rd PMAGS.

If I don't want the hairy-eyeball (and possible body cavity search) of bringing them home in a checked bag, can I ship them home?

You won't get the hairy eyeball or a cavity search if they're checked and you don't need to tell anyone that they're there.

The only time you need to declare is if you check a firearm itself. You can check any firearm (including ammo) as long as they're checked in a TSA approved, locked case. Also, you'll need to declare them to your airline and likely fill out a firearms declaration tag...which is used by the airline to maintain--I guess you'd call it "chain of custody"--in case they were to go missing. Which they won't, because nobody wants THAT particular s**tstorm.

HOWEVER, if that firearm is illegal in your final destination, then you're breaking the law and can expect to go to the pokey.

My wife brought back several rifles from Florida (bequeathed) a few months ago. After we realized that the cases were considered controlled items and escorted to and from the plane, I resolved that my CZ-50 will ALWAYS be checked in my bag--ensuring my bags will NEVER go missing. :D

Just looked at one of the declaration tags...it contains this adorable little tidbit:

"4. My total allowance of checked luggage contains no more than 11 pounds of ammunition and is securely packaged in an appropriate container."

It was the NYPD cop and DHS guy I met with, they know its not illegal but the bag checkers panic. It was a favor to make their jobs easier.

I already "took possession" of them in [insert "free" state here]. So why can't ***I*** Fedex them to ***myself***?

Sounds good to me. Maryland will let you sell them to people in other states. When you do it's ok to ship your Mag to whoever bought them. So t

It is a lot of work, risk and gray area when you can just drive over to VA, PA or DE and buy all you want legally and just bring them home, legally.

I would not risk the "You have been selected for additional screening," by TSA.

I think he was not saying that he was going to fly states away for the mags. He said that if he was traviling for other reason but when out in whatever state he fond some mag's that he wanted to buy. And after taking possession of the mags just shipping them home to himself. Where is the gray area?

If I understand SB-281 correctly, even after Oct 1st, if you have any ban item like AR, AK, 30 round Mags, or whatever, it's OK for anyone to sell said item to people out of the state of Maryland. And I can only deduce when you sell these items to someone out of state it is OK to ship them to whoever you sold them to.

So all I'm saying is it sounds like the shipping of the item is fine as long as your doing the shipping. You just sell or buy, or manufacture a 30 round mag within Maryland.
