Start here: www.tinboats.net There's a weeks worth of reading on the forums.

For a jon boat I'd go cheap, check out Ollie's or Big Lot's for overstocks. I picked up a case of Rustoleum textured plastic paint in tan for $20 and it's weathered really well. I like it because it doesn't show any glare or sun sheen.

Just get an extra can or two to touch up any marks.

Semi-related.... old aluminum canoe I have had for over 30 yrs and has traveled with me from NYS to NC to FL to MD... had a couple of rivets that were loose/leaked, coated the whole exterior in cheap bedliner paint... sealed the leaky rivets and helped to protect my bottom.... used the canoe on the Monocacy and so far the bedliner has held albeit with a few scratches...
