Welcome Martin a Mosin connoisseur 91/30 PU you do have good taste. I would love to have a scoped 91/30 PU but the price is outside of what my wallet could handle. I had to go with a Ex-sniper, a M39 or M44 is next on the list as well as a Mosin-Nagent revolver. Which one I get will depend on which one I find first.

Question How does Dutch law effect purchasing AMMO like the Military Surplus spam can of 440 rounds of 7.62.54r.

What does Ammo cost to feed your Mosin ?

BTW spend sometime Netherlands when I was very young then again when I stationed in Germany I took my wife on a short trip to visit again, I remember as a very clean and beautiful country?

    Thanks for your reply TexasBob.
Buying military surplus ammo is no problem at all.
Of course we have some rules and regulations for storage.
We are not allowed to have more then 10.000 rounds of ammo.
We can only own the so called "ball ammo".
Ammunition like AP/API/and tracer ammo is not allowed.

I can buy a can of 7.62x54R ammo (880) manufactured by Tula for € 200,-.
This would be about $260.00 USD.

I prefer to reload my own ammo though.
It gives my hobby an extra dimension.

Good to hear that you have good memories about the Netherlands.
IMHO it is a great little country.

    Met vriendelijke groet,

    Hello from Silver Spring.

My ex-wife has relatives still living in the Netherlands. Amsterdam and Utrecht but, if I recall correctly, the Utrecht relatives moved to Rotterdam. Another great aunt who lives there as well but I can't remember where exactly. I enjoyed visiting there a lot.

    Met vriendelijke groet,

    Martin

A guilder I believe, dated 1969. I'll take a picture of it as soon as I can find where my kids put it.

Good to hear that you too have good memories about the Netherlands.
Although I envy you every now and then for your gun law, I'm proud to live here and call myself Dutch.

I copied this from another post I made in the "Maryland 2A issues" forum.

Compared to US gun law, Dutch gun law extremely strict.
The only organisations that are allowed to bear arms are the police and the military.
Dutch civilians are not allowed to buy guns for self protection.
We have to rely on the police for that, so concealed carry is not an option.

We do however have the possibility to become what we call over here a "sport shooter".
First you have to become a member of a gun club.
After one year membership you can apply for your own weapon.
This has to be a cal .22 or a muzzle loader.
    It's not allowed to buy a semi-automatic .22.
After the second year you can buy bolt action rifles up to a cal of 8mm only.
    Semi-automatic weapons are not allowed.
Pistols and revolvers are limited up to 9mm and are not allowed to have a caliber of 6.35mm or less.
After the third year you can buy anything that is allowed by our Dutch gun law.
Total maximum amount of weapons that can be owned by a Dutch Sport shooter is 5.
Original BP weapons are free, meaning you can buy as many as you want.
    Replicas need a license.

This is Dutch gun law in a nut shell.
I left out lots of details that , in your eyes, make it all worse.

This sounds like almost nothing is possible, but that is not true.
Like I said.....compared to US gun law Dutch gun law is extremely strict.
Much is still possible though, but you have to be very patient.

    Met vriendelijke groet,

    Martin

First - welcome from across the pond. Second, your Mosin is very nice - what is the story on your scope? How did you get the Mosin with such strict laws?

    Thanks for your reply Sundancer.
The scope came with the rifle.
It's a post war copy, but the quality is outstanding.
    Results are more then good.
Our laws are strict, but when you have been a "sportshooter" as long as I have been our gunlaw permits me to buy these type of weapons.
I could even buy a semi-automatic if I would like to have one.
Our gunlaw is very strict for those who are new to weapons and shooting.
They have to start with the single shot .22LR rifles or pistols and have to work their way up to the larger caliber bolt-action and semi-automatic weapons.
Yes...our gunlaw is very strict, but if you stick to the rules, much can be done.
It just takes a lot of time.................and money.

Welcome! I want to buy my first Mosin soon. Really enjoy your posts...
    Thanks Wankel.
Any ideas on what will be come the first model??
    Maybe a M91/30 or a M44.
My first Mosin Nagant was a 1942 M39.
I still have it and it shoots fantastic using the .311 casted bullets.

In my M91/30 PU sniper I use cal .313 cast bullets with good results.
Let us know when the first Mosin Nagant has arrived at your doorstep.

What do you call a Quarter Pounder with cheese?

    Mmmm........very good question K31.
You might think we would call it a "Royal something with cheese".
It's not like that at all.
To keep all the American tourists from getting confused we kept this one out of the metric system so.....you can buy yourself an original Quarter Pounder over here. :D

    Met vriendelijke groet,

    Martin
