Ammo prices are through the roof, gun prices are ridiculous, I don't even go to the range anymore. Its a nightmare out there, my own parents think I'm crazy for owning so many pistols and one AR-15. I wish people would wake up and see why we need AR's and pistols that carry more than 7 or 10 rounds. People think we live in a Utopia where banning guns and making murder illegal will make us safer. A cop doesn't carry a weapon for your protection...remember that.

I hear ya. I feel like if I go to the range and shoot the little ammo I have, that I'm somehow wasting it as if I'm shooting gold nuggets down range.

I was shooting next to a guy with a full-auto M16 the other evening. I guess if you spent $20k on your gun, maybe it's not so bad dumping $300 of ammo out of it in a one hour session.

I'm curious as to how low you guys have run on some of this ammo. Are we talking "I have 50 rounds, including what's in mags"? I mean, I personally feel like I'm going low when I start going under a thousand rounds of loose ammo, not counting all mags loaded.

Oh no.....double digit quantities of ammo will not be happening here.

I totally agree, the costs are getting a bit crazy. I just keep telling myself that eventually this will run its course and things will return to normal.

So far we've been able to maintain the interest and turnout in the university gun club. I still have enough .22LR ammo to last the club at least have this semester. Once I have to order more, I'm probably going to eat some of the cost myself to keep it affordable for new shooters.

I've been shooting my Mosins and M1 Garands almost exclusively. I have plenty of both calibers stocked up, and I can easily get more .30/06 from the CMP.

Right now I am shooting 22LR almost exclusively. I have a ton of it and I look for it to appear on the store shelves sooner than other calibers. I may be shooting my shotguns more as well.

Yes, I am definitely realizing that I should be maintaining a bigger stock of 9mm, especially now that I've got two rifles and a bunch of handguns that use it.

One answer to ammo costs is to invest in reloading equipment. It's not a perfect solution; the price and availability of components has been impacted too, but it beats reguarl ammo costs by a long shot.

It is rough being a gun owner these days. I really dislike being regarded as if I'm a bad guy, or some kind of borerline criminal who just can't wait to shoot someone simply because I like firearms.

    You think it's hard now?

Consider the coming transition from being a gun owner to becoming a gun user.

The community isn't making it much better...

What really bugs me about the current climate, is how much people seem to be taking advantage of it. I'm a supporter if fair market value and all, but things are getting a bit out of hand. Price gouging and such.

I'm thankful for MD Shooters and the ability to buy and sell locally at reasonable prices. (although, there are definitely a couple of ridiculous asking prices on here as well)

    Supply and demand at work.

As the saying goes, "Buy it cheap and stack it deep." I squirreled away about 1500 rounds of 5.56 and 4500 rounds of 5.45 over the last few years. I won't even mention the .22LR - I buy that by the case, not the box.

prices of .22 LR are ridiculous, I really do hope things calm down. I would really like to invest in reloading equipment I think thats definitely something I want to do, where should I start?

    THIS!

Ive been reloading my own ammo, for a longtime. Only time I ever bought factory loaded ammo, was to get some brass, but most the times I just bought brass. Always reload a surplus of ammo for hard times, such as this.

The current situation has not slowed the Hooligans down -we still shoot just as before. I refuse to let the current situation, cause me to abandon my sport/hobby.

The current firearms/ammo situation is exactly what the anti gunners want. They want to cause a rise in cost and availabilty of ammo & guns, and have pro 2a folks shoot less, or abandon their sport. I refuse to be a part of that.

Tried to purchase some ammo yesterday. BassPro in Hanover had rifle ammunition, but was cleaned out of anything .22 and .223. They had .17HMR, however.

Walmart in Frederick (second photo) ... the shelves were bare, quite literally.

Definitely harder but you can still find stuff, you can still find Glock for under $600 on gun broker if you search right, saw Benelli M4 for $1650 (asking is over $2,000 on gunbroker now) which I am probably will snatch up before the "evval" pistol grip is completely banned. You can get a 1,000 rounds of .45acp shipped from PSA for less than $415. But it takes some more searching for sure and the sub $1,000 AR15s are gone. I look at my bids on a DPMS Oracle (to be stored long time) from early December on gun broker that I missed. First limit was $600, winning bid was $617, second one was limit $650 and winning bid was $655. Now they go for $1,200+ LOL. But I have bought some 3,000 rounds over the past two weeks, a Glock, possibly a 1911 and the M4, two lowers, an upper, two armor plates and some other small stuff. All for not outrageous prices.

The panic buy situation is a double-edged sword. While it is monitarily painful for gun owners, in a way it does help support firearm businesses who are being squeezed by Anti-2A politicians from many economic angles. Running up prices is the law of supply and demand, but it also allows business, especially small firearm business, to weather the politcal storm we've entered.

From divestiture to advertising to pressuring banks to stop loans, and now MD Recreation and Parks are cancelling contracts with show producers, our liberty 2A is under assault. Don't loose sight of that.

Hang in there ... buy up what you can find ... and remember.

Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno ...
