Handgun lock question

Im going to be purchasing my first handgun next month, and heard that I have to use some kind of special lock for the gun when I take it home? Does this apply for all handgun purchases? Im considering purchasing a FN Five Seven and was wondering what type of lock I have to use or get?

New or used, as long as the handgun was made on or after 1/1/2003, it is needed.

The law allows you to bring your own lock, but some dealers claim that they must sell you one.
