Reason published an article regarding recent polling about gun registration, and the opinions on the subject of trust in the government. The numbers may be encouraging to some here. (Apparently adherence to the tenets of NY's "SAFE Act," never very high, continues to decline).

Actually, the level of trust in the Government is shockingly low, which gives me some hope for the future.

The US population benefits from hindsight based on the experiences of other nations that have given up their rights. We're right to be wary.
****I would argue many people don't learn from their mistakes and double and triple down on making the same ones over and over again - generation after generation sometimes. It takes a lot of discipline to go against the prevailing attitudes of the day and as those change, we judge our predecessors sometimes very harshly with the benefit of hindsight, not taking into consideration the times of that day, or the prevailing thoughts that shaped peoples thoughts and beliefs that led them to make certain decisions.

Intelligent people's thoughts on a variety of subjects evolve over time, and don't think for a minute many things going on right now that are seen as evolved thinking won't be laughed at by future generations who will wonder how we could have had so many stupid people living today.

"Americans support tighter laws" because they were lied to about guns being easier to obtain than <Insert Trope Here> some realize Media/Gov/Tech lied to them and come to their senses.

    Some.
