A very nice pick up, MilsurpDan!! I'm a sucker for anything Civil Guard oriented :D

Your M28 is uncommon as it's been through a depot refurb. M28's didn't apparently enjoy the same refurbishment programs some other models did (M91's, M27's, and M28/30's come to mind). You don't often see M28's redone such as this one-but it's all totally correct
Your stock looks like a two-piece version, but a later example. In the beginning, the Civil Guard didn't have stocks for the rifles and cut down old M91 stocks for them. Those older, converted stocks had the SYT proof in the right finger groove to show it passed inspection for use with the new rifle. This one is probably one of the newer ones that was added post reblue. Your rifle also looks like it's sporting an M39 sling.

Mawkie- As you're probably aware, your M28 originally was in a double-slotted, "Ski-Trooper" stock pre-refurb. Too bad the old stock isn't still with it!! I also see your bolt has the proper CG District number on the bolt flat. Does it have a, "o20" on the bolt knob? How about just a 20 on the long side of the buttplate? Your rifle does have a correct M28 sling with an oval buckle.

Dan- I'm sure many of us look forward to pics of the barrel shank, bolt, and a shot of the long side of the buttplate (looking for a rack number).
I'd also like to add I'd LOVE to find a .444 lever for the price you paid!!

It does have a 20 stamped on the buttstock, no o20 on the bolt knob.
I had no clue it was originally in a double slotted stock (which I have been looking for, go figure). Am I correct it's because the original SN falls into the range of the first 6000 produced?

    Yes, sir!! You are correct.
The first 6000 (or so) got put in the double-slotted Ski/Bike Trooper stock. I've seen more than a few actions higher than 6000 sitting in a double slotted stock. There are several theories as to why, but history (at this point) tells us only the first 6000 (approx) rifles were dropped into those stocks.

I saw that M28 "walking around", it looked very nice. I saw another M28 being carried too. I didn't ask about either.
My M28 has a one piece walnut stock with a beech handguard. The stock is marked SYT in the finger groove. It shure doesn't look like it's ever been refinished. It has the standard sling slots.

Was able to take her out and shoot her in the back yard yesterday. Like most Finns it shot wonderfully. Took out a few watermelons and got about about a 1.5-2inch group on paper at 110 yards using Chinese surplus. Shes a keeper!

    Welcome back, sir!!
Glad to see you're still around keeping an eye out for the deals up there. Throw out some pics of your M28. It definitely sounds like my kind of warhorse!!

    Dan-Glad to hear the 28's a shooter!

OK, I know it's wrong to be jealous, envious, and infused with covetousness, but Lord help me, that M28 is sweet!!

Did you mean me? :D I WISH I had a .444! I remember drooling over them at BEST in New Carrollton as a kid in HS (dating myself with that one).

As an aside- For me, it IS all about the Mosins
That is my singular hobby. Researching, buying, and talking about them. When I'm not on the road or spending time with my family-It's about the Mosins. Though the few people that have been to the mancave can attest-I can break out the modern stuff with the best of 'em ;)
