70gr Berger VLD over 25.2 grs RL15 in Win brass. 2950+ out of my 20" 8twist AR. Work up to it and this is a 5.56mm NATO pressure, so don't use if you are in a 223 Rem chamber.
If you are loading mag length ammo, all of the popular 5.56mm bullet choices (e.g. 77gr SMK, 75gr Hornady, 69gr SMK, etc) will stabilize fine with a 7, 8 or 9 twist barrel. Bullets longer than 77gr SMK will require 7 twist or faster. 7 twist generally overstabilizes most 5.56mm bullets. No point in over-spinning, unless you are shooting at really low MVs or with strange environmentals, and there are lots of downsides, including more spin drift and lower MVs for a given powder charge.
As a general rule, other peoples recipes will likely not translate well to your rifles. There will be slight variations that make yours unique.
Best advice is to develop your own load with proven components. That is where we can help the most, by keeping you away from crappy bullets, brass and powders that haven't given great results for the application.
Might want to post your rifles' specs for the group to help you better.
I have a Remington 700 VTR .308 as well and here is my load. You should see similar results with yours if you use this load:
168gr Hornady BTHP
41grs Hodgdon Benchmark powder. 41grs with commercial brass, 40.5 w/ Lake City military Brass.
71mm OAL
this made an average of 2660fps out of a 10 shot group
I use 43.5 grains of Varget, 175 Nosler Custom Competition, Federal primers and an OAL of 2.825. However, my buddies get good results from 43-45 grains of Varget. Work up.
