    Did you check out Marlin?

I just purchased a Marlin 981T. The place had to order it so I haven't picked it up yet but I can let you know how it is when I get it. It is a .22LR bolt action tube loader with a 22 inch barrel.

+1 for savage mark II, very affordable, especially if you can find one at walmart.

I can't say enough abut the Savage MkII's but if you are willing to do a little work to clean the riflle up and replace the front globe sight or mount a scope, Scott's Gunsmithing in Glen Burnie had a Winchester model 52 with Heavy barrel on the shelf for $400.

What kind of glass do you have on that Herr.Baer?

OP, to expand a bit on my earlier thought, the three guns I listed are all popular with good reason. The Savages are the most affordable, offer the adjustable (and very nice) "accu-trigger" and are the most widely available.

The Rugers and CZ's are probably a step up from the Savage in terms of precision accuracy and fit and finsih, but it might indeed be a small step. The CZ's have a rabid and informed following on this board from some extremley knowledgable shooters.

If you want to drop a grand, an Anshutz is something beautiful to behold.

I have been looking into this as well. The tube loading and the variety of ammo that can be used appeal to me.

    All nice rifles

    Exactly Chevy, Ford, Dodge.

Marlin makes a good one also the 25's were nice and the newer model is as well not sure of the number.

I have heard mixed reviews on the Mossberg 802 bolt but I have a 702 semi and love it.
