Getting them Ready/Deer Rifles

I am running a 20” Howa mini 1500 in 6.5 Grendel with 120gr gold dot hand loads running 2400fps. With an Omega 300 on it.

I’ll probably hunt with that western MD early season and eastern shore CFL late season. Hopefully I can get out. I have to swing by the range to zero it though.

Primary hunting rifle is a Browning A-Bolt 300 WSM with a Leupold VX5HD zeroed at 100 yards with handloads.

I hope to get the model 94 out this year and take one with irons.

I have 2 rifles I plan to take out this year both with handloads. Rifle #1 is a weatherby vanguard in 257wby zeroed@ 250yds with Barnes 101gr lrx @ 3680fps. Rifle#2 is a ruger sfar 308 16" zeroed @100yds with 165gr nosler ballistic tips @ 2615fps. The ruger is my " brush gun" the weatherby for open fields.

Shew, 3680 fps from a quarter bore is awesome! I bet that thing shoots flat out to 300. I've always wanted a .25-06 for no real good reason other than I wanted a quarter bore in the gun safe. If I'm gonna reload for another new caliber maybe the 257 is a candidate. How's recoil and muzzle blast?

Zeroed @ 250yds it's + 1.5" @100yds ...-2"@300yds.. -10" @ 400yds..-22"@ 500yds...recoil is about like a 308 its not harsh at all it will however give quite the muzzle flash fired in low light. Tough to find 25 cal pills that hold together for it on impact.

Yeah I bet. Bonded or something like TSX are probably the only thing that don't explode on impact inside 200 yards. Maybe Swift A frames also.

Using my Remington 7600 30-06 this week in WV. That one is topped with a Leupold 4-12X40 VX Freedom. Shooting
Core-loct 150 grain PSP.
Next week in MD I’ll be using a Savage 110 350 Legend with a Leupold 3-9X40 vari-x 2. I shoot Winchester Deer Season XP 150 grain. Both rifles zero 100 yards.
3 weeks ago I was using my Model 700 chambered in 300 win mag in Idaho. Vortex Viper HS 4–16X44 on that one. I used core-loct 180 grain with that rifle.
I’m planning on upgrading the optics in the next few months on that one. I felt underscoped with a 4-16 out west.

I've run the barnes 101lrx after filling a couple crop tags with the hornady 117gr sst. That bullet should be labeled vmax and not sst . I used the sst twice both shots around 300yds both times it came apart and never reached the opposite side rib cage. Both deer dropped where they stood with massive amounts of internal damage but I like exit holes. I'm actually thinking about a rebarrell to a faster twist so I can try the new long high bc 25 cal pills that are out now.

100 yard zero will be just fine over there. Ill call, let you know when you can get in it.
Just park on the side of the lane, in front of that old house.

SST is known for being fragile. I like it in my .308, but at 1000fps faster, you're asking for a grenade.

Hunting in a straight wall county I recently switched to a Marlin 1895 in .450 Marlin. Ammo is hard to find, but its hard to argue with the results last season. Deer was dead before it hit the ground.

Marlin lever in .30-30. Although I'll probably just be out with a Hoyt Rampage with 100grain NAPs.
