    The Garand bolt makes slight contact with the receiver heel every time it is fired. Look at the inside of the receiver, you will see the finish worn off here. A worn op rod spring the bolt will cycle faster and make harder contact. It is "possible "the receiver heel can crack over time. Who knows what these rifles have been through in their lifetime. While it is rare I have seen heels crack that have been feed nothing but a diet of M2 ball
    Not to mention a large percentage of Garand malfunctions are caused by worn out of spec springs
    Just cheap insurance to keep your rifle running with no problems
