Just wondering...any active duty guys stationed at Ft. Meade? If so, does anyone know if there's a range for non military types who can still access post? I moved out here from WA last year. I was able to use the civilian range on Ft. Lewis. Just wondering if Ft. Meade has something like that. If so, can someone direct me to it? I would greatly appreciate it.
I have proper credentials to get on post and don't need a visitor's pass. Thanks for any assistance.

There is a range you can use if you join the meade rifle club. Its not expensive, but you are limited to certain weekends and times.

You can shoot lead ammo on the 300 and 600 yard ranges but not on the 25 and 50 yard ranges.
The range is operated by NSA security and actually belongs to DOI. It is no longer part of Fort Meade and you cannot transit the base with weapons in your vehicle.

I was a member for a long time but quit mostly because the access process is a pain. You must access through the gate on Rt 198 but can only enter and leave at certain times. I could live with the lead free ( I also belonged to On Target and shot pistol there) as I mostly shot rifle but the restricted access was the final straw.

Prior to 9-11 we just drove through the base with our guns and nobody cared. :sad20:

You can shoot lead on at least one of the pistol/carbine ranges. I forget which number it is. I was there this past weekend, but was on range 7 which is a lead free pistol range.

I'm pretty sure your firearms must be registered with the PMO (police dept) to bring them on to the range (even though the NSA owns the range), which is done at the visitor control center, at the intersection of md 175 and Reece rd.

Incorrect. They do not need to be registered with Ft Meade PMO if you are a member of one of the clubs and enter the Range Rd entrance without traversing through Ft Meade proper.

If you live and/or work on Ft Meade that is a whole different can of worms....

A lot of correct statements listed in this thread. I am a member of the MR&GC since we get access to the 300 and 600 yard ranges. Can't beat it! I am also a member of other ranges for 100 yard daily shooting, for every day fun!

Google Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore and you will be able to pick a club to join. You can shoot at 100 or 200 yard rifle and 25 and 50 yard pistol almost every day of the year. I know they used to be closed on Christamas and New year.

Correct. The Mead Rod &Gun Club is one of the Associated Gun Clubs that govern the AGC. Get your Mead R&G membership first (I think it is like $35 for new members, with some low price like $15/yr after that for renewals; you must also be a NRA member) , then go through the AGC range orientaion. AGC range use costs $150/yr for a photo membership ID/badge. I am a member of MR&G and the AGC range.

No, sorry, you pay for the year, though new AGC range users get a 1/2 off discount after June.

I forgot to mention that there are specific specifications for the target holders that can be used at AGC. You can see the specs on the website. You can also purchase a 100-yd range target holder for $25 or so from AGC and use it on the pistol range. The 200yd range target holders are supplied by AGC.

Good to know. You think I would know that being the Police there an all...haha. Word of warning though, do not enter fort meade proper without proper registration, you will be arrested and charged.
