At launch, the AirTags will be available to residents in specific areas of the city that have recently seen the largest increase in vehicle thefts.

To obtain the tags, residents will have to attend one of three scheduled distribution events next week where officers will install the device on the resident’s cars and help them set up the tracking tag on their mobile devices.

They do that with hood rats. Not aware if they tag them though.

Reminds me of the book "See Something, Say Nothing" written by DHS plank holder, whistleblower and now deceased from a case of "suicide", entomologist Phillip Haney.

In the book he spoke of his study of ants applied nicely to terrorists.

D.C. Police is rolling out the second phase of a pilot program that provides free tracking tags for residents as carjackings and theft continue to surge.

MPD officials will give out Apple AirTags and Tile trackers during distribution events on Tuesday, Dec. 5, and Wednesday, Dec. 6.

During a meeting Monday, D.C. officials also advised that the trackers be placed in winter jackets as thieves have targeted those wearing expensive coats.
