I was in my parents’ basement this weekend and came across a few very old boxes of 30-30 that were my grandfather’s. One of the boxes had load data for “Foxy Special” 30-30 loads: 34 grains of Winchester 748, CCI Magnum primers, and a 150 gr. soft point bullet. The date was 1978 or so.
I believe my grandfather used these for hunting, but I’m not 100% certain (I never hunted with him because he became immobile while I was young).
I’m not sure if all of the boxes were reloads or only the one box with the label. I generally don’t shoot other people’s reloads, but I’m curious about this load. I’ve always used IMR 3031 with a 150 gr. cast FP for 30-30 and had decent results with it.
Does the Foxy Special load look off to anyone? I probably won’t shoot it even if it was safe, but I’m just genuinely curious about this load.
And no, I have no idea who “Foxy” was.
