Badly bricked. Doesn't even display upgrading anymore, just boot lights flash and phone then turns off.

    Located in Cockeysville.

I thought Cisco made computer stuff, what is made from bricks ?

Cisco 7961 is a Voice over IP phone. OP was trying to convert it from one voice protocol to another and something didn't go right during the process and now the phone is disabled or 'bricked', as in worthless as a brick is for making calls.

Some recovery methods might still be possible, thus making the phone 'un-bricked'.

I can see on my tftp server its calling for files but I don't think I have the right config files to get the phone to call for the firmware.

According to my research, you need to configure some like default loads file. I'm not sure about how to do that.

Out of curiosity, do you have other 7961's working fine on your system?

Is there no ROMMON type access to these phones when they brick? I have a hard time believing there isn't. Cisco is usually pretty decent about having a handful of ways to fix their gear when it craps out.

    I've done all that.

The phone calls for the term61.defaults file, then does nothing.

I set the root of the TFTP to c:\tftp and put all the files in the root.

This is the text of the defaults. I tried putting an absolute path for each file, and also a \ in front.

If it were a switch or a router I could be more help. I wish I had a phone around here (and call manager) to play with to help you. :(

    Somewhere in MD
gprimr1 - will you be at the MSI meeting later? I have a CUCM 8.6.1ES12 VM on my laptop...if you have a power supply for the phone, bring it along and I can try to get it back to a default image load.
