Thanks everyone for the comments.
Being as this blade is high carbon steel and will rust, I decided to force a patina with white vinegar. I think it turned out well.

Wow, I agree - the patina completes the look. Knives like this on the internet fetch $100-300. Nice work.

I made a sheath to go with the knife, not bad for my first sheath but like everything in life practice is needed and I need to make a few more sheaths.

My skinner is coming together but my dremil won't unlock to switch attachments.

Still gotta finish with the stain, polish the brass, and add a leather strap but I'm happy. I'll admit I'm not fond of the wood that came with the kit for the handle. I would have liked something a little more ornate but it's my first one and I totally learned a lot. Needless to say I'll be doing more here shortly. It was pretty fun and at 15 bucks a piece, a few beers, and two hours away from a screaming kid TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!
