This is actually two pieces of walnut glued together to make a piece thick enough for a stock. I know this is not the way it's done but for my first attempt I figured I'd try it. The wood came from a friend's backyard walnut tree that his grown son planted from a nut from the grandmother's tree. He had the tree cut down and the wood milled up for his woodworking projects. Unfortunatly he didn't mill any thick enough for a stock.

Kudos for taking a stab at that.

Good that you watched the grain direction on the butt stock during glue-up.

That will definitely help hide the seam.

Keep us up to date on it.

    Looks like a good start.
I learned to make the small transitions for instance on the top surface exaggerated or more pronounced for when you band-saw it out. Almost cartoon like. Same thing for instance at the stock comb at the nose.
Doing so just gives the maker a little more latitude for defining the curved areas where they transition to another plane.
Otherwise looks great and will follow the project. The timber looks great too, awesome project.

Finished the project. A long way from perfect but ok for my first attempt. This stock will fit my Marlin 60's or the 75C as pictured. You can see the seam where the two pieces where glued together but it doesn't look all that bad to me. Three coats of tung oil for a finish. No stain.

Beautimus. Give yourself a well deserved pat on the back.

This forum has needed a "What Second Amendment Stuff Did You Do Today" thread for a very long time.

A tread dedicated to all things gun and gun powder related. With lots of pictures. Lots of tools. Lots of methods, procedures, tips and tinkering.

Basically, a Show and Tell thread for gun freaks and craftsman.

Very cool looking stock. You should be proud of the workmanship that went into that.

I thought that was what the gun smithing tab was for? But it often contains more referrals , questions and opinions than actual project undertaking.
There’s some good stuff in there from time to time just like this one.

Well done. I want to do this for a gun I have with a broken stock, but I have 100 projects in front of it.
