Given the current cost of both M2 ball and 8mm ammo, I decided to expand my WWII collection to include a more affordable Soviet shooter. Today I picked up my first Mosin Nagant from another member. It's a Russian M44, numbers matching Izzy. The date is worn off, but I can make out a 5r, so 1945. I'm curious as to whether it may be late war production or post war. From what little research I've just done, the single ear bayonet mount suggests early '45. Anybody that can tell me more, it'd be appreciated. I can't wait to get to the range and make it spit fire.

My 1st was a 91/30 ex-sniper from Lou, now my eyes are out for a M44/M39
The wife said I had to wait until my C&R comes in, for now I get to window shop and drool. :rolleye12

Get on over to Brian @ South Carroll Sporing goods, or Lou @ Shooters discount. Quit your moaning and get your MOSIN!

If you wait too long to buy a mosin you'll end up as one of "the one with the ammo" waiting for the one with the rifle to die so you can "pick up" the rifle. :D

Remember they shoot better with bayo extended, check with the range personnel before you do it - some places don't want extended bayo's.

    Very nice gun - enjoy.

Suggestion: Go on to Youtube and check out some M44 video's!

My collection started with picking up 2 Mosins at the Gettysburg gun show and I still have 1 of the original 2. It has since spiraled out of control since then.

I need help. I love mosins. I am addicted to mosins. Can I have another?

I was at Freestate this weekend in White marsh and saw a Hungarian M44
A whopping $275 price tag on it.

My Mosin babies: a 91/30 with laminate stock, a Russian 44, Romanian 44 and a type 38. I had a second Russian 44 but traded it to my BIL for about $500 worth of landscaping, lol
