The only thing I can think of is that they are looking for political points from other liberals, because anyone who knows ANYTHING about guns knows that one semi-auto is about the same as another. A Mini-14 can fire a 223 just as well as an AR. Along those lines, why don't they look at a Remington 597 as an assault weapon? It's a semi-auto. I guess they figure 30 .22LRs in your skull is safer than a single 223. Hmm...
