Is it legal for a not-prohibited Md resident to purchase face-to-face an original M1 Garand from another not-prohibited Md resident?

Always consult a lawyer or the Maryland State Police to be sure, but it should be since, according to MDSP's firearm search, the M1's not regulated, which generally makes it cash 'n' carry (with a successful NICS check, if purchased from an FFL).....as sundazes (correctly) suggested "for now".

To be safe, just purchase it from the CMP, which, after you've completed all the requisite paperwork, they'll ship right to your door, with a reliable guarantee of satisfaction.

Yes. I have sold a few. I recommend that seller and buyer acknowledge the conveyance of the firearm in writing via a bill of sale so that if the firearm ever becomes the subject of an inquiry that ownership can be proven.
