I’m working thru helping my stepmother make progress with my Father’s Estate and am looking for an FFL in/near thurmont to assist with a multi-piece transfer from her/the estate to me.

I don’t know North County well but don’t believe there is an FFL in Thurmont.

Any recommendations without having to travel too far? Are there FFLs who will come to the house?

Skeeter in smithsburg might be a good choice, I've transfered lots through him. He is transitioning the business a new owner who i haven't worked with yet.

I think Stateline Gun Exchange is in Emmitsburg, I've never used them personally.

You should be able to do this entirely online via MSP for no cost.
