I agree with this message. There are no prizes for classifying higher. No one is turned away from IDPA because of their classification. What are you trying to achieve?Sorry OP, this is a multifaceted can of worms.
Short answer is no, but you could find a range that you could improvise such a feat; but why? My understanding of the classifier is not intended to be rehearsed, but a reflection of your skill level within the sport.
You could dry fire drill the drills and probably improve, but live fire as you suggest is best, but again, I miss why?
Lastly, I believe there were or are some new IDPA rules and maybe a change to the classifier. Good luck to you.

Yes. That is a good idea. As others have said, thurmont, peacemaker, etc have areas for that if you belong. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of places in central Maryland to practice with live fire.I wanted a place to practice my draw techniques, movement both for and aft and laterally, along with shooting behind cover.
After looking at some of the "stages", I just thought this was the easiest "stage" to configure that would allow for all the above mentioned movements. Nothing more.
I think my use of the term classifier was vague, sorry for that as I'm learning every day. It's hard being a "newb"!
Do any of our MD ranges have an established practice area for IDPA classifier?
AAF&G has an action pistol range where matches are held on Fridays and Saturdays. If you become a member, you can practice on the range whenever it is not being used. The only caveat is that you need to be a IDPA SO or Range SO and there has to be another SO with you.
Many members that shoot IDPA make use of the range in the off days to practice. You can configure it anyway you want.
Peacemaker in WV. They have 10 bays and generally leave you alone once you prove yourself to be trustworthy. You can move, draw, PT, and anything else you can think of. They have steel and target frames in every bay. I love this place.
We drive almost 2 hours each way.
If you'd like to come check it out as my guest just let me know. It's amazing, and totally worth the drive.
