As the title states do we have any erosion control specialists on board? I just need some plans to stop what I got going on. My property is at the bottom of a hill in my neighborhood. Everything was fine until my neighbor (above me on the hill) cut down almost all his trees, now I am having some significant erosion. I have some trees that I need to take down so its only going to get worse. Main reason I'm getting rid of trees is so I can get some grass to grow. My back yard is dirt/mud and weeds. Just not cutting it with the kids playing outside. I can't get it to look good no matter what I do just looks like crap and now I got this going on.

These pictures don't do it justice.

I kind of have the same issue, due to moles and a steep driveway, on one side of the drive the water runs off and has created the same type of gulley following a mole tunnel. I plan on putting a drain where it seems to begin and the bury a pipe down into the woods, and have it discharge into rocks and gravel.

I have a valid gold card in DE, and used to have a green card and yellow card in MD, although I think they expired by now.

The hands down best way to prevent erosion is to establish vegetation (i.e. grass). Get a soil test done to make sure the chemistry is suitable for the cultivar you are trying to grow, adjust as necessary, fill the gullies and grade if possible to establish more even sheet flow, loosen the topsoil to allow the roots to take (won't grow well on compacted dirt), and then seed/mulch/tack.

Water always flows downhill, and always follows the path of least resistance. You can install some stone checks along obvious locations of concentrated flow to slow the water speed, prevent/slow the rate of further erosion, and allow time for the grass to establish.

Without physically visiting the site it is difficult to provide further advice, but other options include clearwater diversions, defined and properly routed/stabilized ditches, subsurface drains, etc. Some options may require further analysis/design by a licensed engineer.
