I live in a very safe area but with certain exceptions I'm Pants On Guns On. That's not saying that I never pad downstairs on the weekends with a pair of pj pants on or go to events where I will have more than one adult beverage and I don't carry or go to events or places that are GFZs and I simply can't.

What I carry is comfortable enough that it doesn't bother me to carry it 16 hours a day so why not? I have a fire extinguisher on three floors of the house even though the chances of me needing it on the bedroom level are far less than the one in the kitchen or basement.

Homes in nicer safer neighborhoods DO have home invasions, no area is exempt. Are some areas safer? Absolutely. Is the chance of home invasion in your 'hood absolutely zero? Absolutely not.

And telling someone that they should move or get their heads examined if they choose to carry in their homes is just rude IMO.

    Nicely said.

I carry so that it becomes muscle memory and I want to be panicked if I notice it’s not there so I don’t leave it somewhere or leave without it.

I carry my wallet at home, I don’t expect to get pulled over. I carry my car keys at home, I don’t expect to start the car from inside. I carry my phone at home, I don’t expect to get a call. But sometime I do.. and I know where each of them are at all times, on my person.

Imagine never laying on the couch in your underwear watching your favorite show.
Well that hits pretty close to home right now:o

..."gun" is concealed, but no firearm on me :innocent0

Probably something close by though ;)

I've felt safe enough to be complacent in each of the places I've lived 99.9999% of the time...but there's always something ready just in case.

Remember that shooting (I think it was a church in TX) that a good guy stopped with his AR...but he had to load his magazine first? We should be a little more prepared than that, even if we live next to a church.

Another benefit of packing at home: Mexican carry! And nobody cares.

Rarely inside as I fully expect to have access to something fast enough in the unfortunate event that I need it. Outside sometimes in case I have issues with wild animals be they rabid or predators.

I dunno . I packed while shoveling out the barn , to shoot the quick moving jumbo rats that are my grain , and chewed my tack .

Pro tip - don't shoot 9mm +P+ inside a barn , without ear pro . .45Colt with the lower muzzle pressure is much more forgiving .
or the 5' copperhead that went into grain bin after said well fed rats.... wife next day "why are there 2 bullet holes in the grain bin?" first shot only winged it...

CCI .45 Colt shotshells . Will drop a trophy size Rat at 9' , but not go thru stall walls .

I don't know the Ripken family personally but I'm betting that Cal's mom wishes she had committed the "rookie mistake" back in 2012.

I open carried at home today while WFH (breaking in a new OWB). My wife came home from work a few hours early. She ignored it for a few minutes and then completely busted me on my latest acquisition which was riding in the holster. She asked about it and actually learned how a DA/SA with decocker works upon asking about it and if one was in the chamber.

    LOL

I carry mostly on the weekends now when we are out. I went to get my hair cut and she asked are you gonna carry, I said of course. She asked because "someone would be close"..I mentioned if they are they close, they are cutting the wrong hair. I used to get the "is there 1 in the chamber" question but she doesn't ask they anymore.

LOL indeed... I carry most of the time aside form days in the office. She knows this but never thought to ask about one in the chamber until today. She knows rifles for hunting and has done that, but has never been comfortable handling handguns. Glad she asked today, BC she's now a lot more comfortable knowing why one is in the chamber. Never thought about how quick a bad scenario can go down or the potential very short distances involved.

    Yep.

    started about ten years ago.

I had a slight run-in with a “salesman” who, ignoring the “No Soliciting” sign on the front door walked around the house and spooked me while I was working on a generator. only weapon i had in hand was a screwdriver.

he had a clipboard, no ID, gave me a hard time about “you gonna stab me with that?”

    wanna try me?

fortunately he scuttled off in a hurry.

he didn’t get anywhere near the front door or the dogs would’ve gone off.

no I didn’t call “the man” but I spoke with some neighbors about it.

I’ve carried nearly every time I go outside since.

I carry at home, have been for about 10 years. I’m also waiting for my permit but I often carry at the shop all day, lock it up drive home then carry around the house. For many years I only had a Glock 17. That thing looked like a police trade in from carrying it at the house and the shop.

I don’t specifically carry because I’m home, but when I put it on in the morning I don’t take it off everytime I come back in the door. (My EDC setup is quite comfortable.) So unless I’m going to be doing something where it would be in the way (i.e. working on car, etc.), once I put it on I don’t take it off until I’m settling down in the evening. I would find it annoying to put it on and take it off multiple times a day - easier to just leave it on.
