Made 350 mile trip thru MD, PA and NY states and stopped at 6 walmarts and 2 Bass Pro Shops--not s whiff of handgun ammo until I got to upstate NY.

Found 2 boxes of Winchester 100 rounds/ .45... Was able to buy them only because of my VA CCW card. In NY state you can't buy ammo without a Firearm Card so out of state buyers are SOL if they are gun owners only.

He's bought them, he just hasn't been able to take possession of them yet. I'd say trying to get ammo for them now is prudent.

How could I have not known that after he told us; "I guess it doesn't really mater. It's not like I have anything to shoot either of them with anyway."

Nothing misleading there. Instead, why would anyone say; "I got two guns on the way and just wanted to be ready".

Maybe it's me?
