They can do it, and there will be a lawsuit which easily overturns it.

They're grasping at straws of an issue very few care about, and they'll gladly waste every tax dollar they collect to try and save face.

Item 6 about denying permit based upon a physical handicap is going to land them in hot water pretty quickly......

Oh man, I'd hate to be a DC tax payer.

Can someone get the city audited and get a the grand total they spent fighting handguns?

It has to be at least ~6% of their budget.

Jim Graham said as much on WTOP the other day. He realized the city will lose this one and was wondering why they're going to waste the money. He may be a jack*ss, but maybe he's at least a realist.

They've got to be kidding! Another hurdle is that there are apparently no gun stores in D.C. now. As far as the 2nd Amend. is concerned, this place is like reconstructing Iraq after Saddam.:sad20:

IF they can ban full auto, they can ban semi-auto. For that matter they can ban every handgun except original Colt Army and Navy revolvers, and take there gun control back to it's racial roots. They would still comply with the supreme courts ruling.

"When transporting your firearm, it must be unloaded,
wrapped securely or placed in a gun case on the back
    seat of your car."

What if you're driving a pickup, motorcycle, bicycle, or walking?

DC is apparently a may issue state for open and concealed carry.

DC has nothing that I have seen its laws banning semi auto firearms. But there is something about ones that can fire more than 12 rounds in semi auto.

The ban on the physical handicap is only part of it. The DC law says that anyone that cannot get a license from the DMV because of their (corrected I assume) vision cannot get a handgun. I am not sure about DC, but in MD that used to be as low as 20/40 with glasses.
They are facing a huge lawsuit on that one.

As far as gun stores, there is nothing in DC law that I have seen that says they cannot sell handguns if they exited tomorrow. The DC code says no firearms listed as not being registrable can be sold, but since Thursday handguns can be registered.

Two of us are going down to DC on Tuesday if plans hold to apply for carry permits and handgun registration.....because DC has non-resident handgun carry licenses and there is nothing I have seen yet that says one has to be a resident to register their handgun for handgun carry license, we are going to pick up the forms and maybe try to register or get the license.

    Register? You never mentioned that!

Anyone read page 2, barrel length for shotguns? 20 inches? Federal law says 18" is the shortest legal.

As far as handicap, there are plenty of shooters who are missing a leg or other part but they can safely handle a firearm. Agree, major ADA issue there.

This is BS! If D.C. fails to comply with the ruling of the SCOTUS they should be tossed in jail like any of us would for disobeying the court.

    Finger prints
    $48 per weapon for registration
    Notarized Eligibility form
    Pass a Written test
    No Semi Autos
    Two passport photos
    Complete a Firearms application

The court ruled that the second amendment is an individual right, Not a privilege like a drivers license, imagine if you put the same restrictions on the First Amendment. :mad54:

Oh, come on... we knew this was coming. If a new lawsuit throws out the:

    Two passport photos
    Complete a Firearms application

... then next, he'll put ridiculous limits on ammunition (no more than 1 round may be purchased at a time, bullets must be enviro-friendly [no heavy metals], shell casings must be made from recycled materials, all ammo components must be nonflammable, etc...). This guy has proven to be an No. 1, A list jerk from beginning to end. What made any of you think he'd comply?

remember, DC's definition of a machine gun includes any gun that can or can easily be converted to fire more than 12 rounds semi-automatically. That basically covers any detachable magazine firearm.
