First, let me say that domestic violence is horrific, and the KC Chiefs linebacker incident was nothing short of a tragedy. That being said...
Not a huge fan of O'reilly, but I checked out a rerun of his segment with Costas tonight. Idiocy at all levels. He's talking about gun purchases not requiring background checks (against a clip of a gun show), mandatory training for firearms purchase (not carry, but purchase!), and how it's horrible that people can buy "military grade artillery" and "automatic weapons," and only the police should have artillery and automatic weapons.
Then they talked about Aurora, and Costas said that the guy had 'artillery' (listening for the word this time) and body armor (didn't catch if he said the guy had an automatic weapon or not, but the phrase 'military grade' came up). O'reilly took the position that he'd much rather have had a firearm to protect himself than have to cower and just hope that the shooter left him alone; Costas took the position that civilians with weapons would have resulted in huge collateral damage.
Then they talked about "gun culture" and professional athletes, and Costas ended with something along the lines of "I can't think of any case where an athlete with a gun prevented something from happening but there are numerous cases where an athlete with a gun ended in tragedy."
Absolutely asinine. And this is what they're getting on a "conservative" show. It's no wonder the 2A is under attack, if even Fox News is willing to go along with anti-gun propaganda and not call Costas on his complete lack of understanding of both the law and situations.
